I used
silver (for the handprint) and white (I had to paint around the handprint because
the play dough discolored the plaster) acrylic paint. I picked them up at
Michael's and chose ones that were multi-purpose. The brand I bought is called
Americana and it can be used for wood, glass, and ceramics.
I then used
a hot glue gun to glue the ribbon directly to the back of the plaster hand
print. Then I traced the handprint outline on card stock (I used blue glitter
snowflakes). I cut out the outline and used hot glue to glue it to the ribbon
and plaster. It hides the ribbon and gives the poem and ornament a nice
background.
Then I
printed out the poem on regular printer paper and cut it out in a design I
thought looked best to match the shape of the card stock.
I glued it
on to the card stock using regular Elmer's glue because I didn't want the paper
to get the ridges from the hot glue. A glue stick might work better.
I had to
make 3 (one for each set of grandparents and one for us to keep) and it was a
lot of trial and error. I had 4 handprints, so I used the worst one in a
trial run and refined what I did to the ones I wanted to give/keep.
They turned
out well, and I hope the grandparents like them. I am a sentimental kind of
person, so I know I'd love it as a gift...but my in-laws are a different
story. We got them other things as well...but oh well...It's the thought that counts right?

Anyway, good luck!
