I mentioned before about how I'm going to be visiting my MIL who has cats. Last week I called my doctor's office for a new prescription for an inhaler. I've already been prescribed this before so I didn't think it was a huge deal. The receptionist told me to call my pharmacy to have them request a prescription renewal. So I did.
I found out on Saturday that the renewal was denied. I called my doctor's office this morning. The receptionist now tells me that I was denied because they haven't seen me in over a year. I said that makes sense since I was pregnant last year. She also says that they stopped taking my insurance and that I can pay out of pocket if I want to see my doctor. Apparently they sent out a letter 4 months ago. I never got such letter and we are pretty good about checking our mail. BUT even if I wanted pay out of pocket to get a new prescription, I can't get an appointment because they are booked through the holidays.
Lovely. Part of this is my fault because I should have followed up on this months ago and not wait until the last minute. Part of it is theirs because if I had known they were dropping my insurance, I would have been more prepared with this. It takes weeks to get an appointment with a new doctor and I would have made sure to do that.
So now I'm weighing my options on what to do next. I just have to vent because this isn't my day today. Woke up early to take DH to the airport (he's gone for 3 days on a business trip), Nat has been cranky, and now I'm dealing with this. I just have to hope that today doesn't get any worse.
Re: I'm in trouble (vent-nbr)
Can you go to like a Minute Clinic in Walgreens or something like that? I don't really have a GP, so when I get to the point where I need meds, that's often where I go. Good luck! Hopefully you can find something!
No doctors in my area on such short notice, but I'm considering trying to make an appt with my doctor in my hometown. I still have my file with them and we'll be there next week. But I could run into the same problem with them being booked over the holidays.
Hotels are definitely an option, but we aren't too excited about spending the money on one. A second option is to visit urgent care or walgreens pharmacy when my asthma starts acting up and hope they can prescribe something.
That's what I was thinking, too, at the very least. I just hope they can prescribe something because I know there are limitations.
No, I had Nat had a birth center with a midwife. They release you after 6wks pp.
That is a good suggestion, though, for anyone with an OB!
Update: I went to the CVS Minute Clinic and the NP/PA there prescribed me a one-time-only albuterol prescription. YAY! That's all I need to get me through the holidays until I can see a new doctor!!
Thanks everyone for the tips!! Btw, CVS Minute Clinic no longer handles asthma on a regular basis. So, in case anyone else is wondering.
