Am I being unreasonable? WWYD?

DH wants to go to a NFL football game tomorrow night - tickets are still available. We live almost 2 and a half hours from the stadium, and the game is at 7:30 our time and will likely not be over until about 10:30, meaning we wouldn't get back onto the road until probably 11 pm. I have to get up at 5am to get ready for work, he has to get up at 6. We wouldn't get back home until at least 1:30 or 2am. He's all ticked off because I've vetoed the game - I told him he could ask his dad to go, but that I didn't want to stay out that late on a night when I have work the next morning. If it were during Christmas Break or on a weekend, I'd probably be all for it. WWYD? Am I being unreasonable?

So there's this boy. He kinda stole my heart. He calls me "Mom"

Re: Am I being unreasonable? WWYD?

  • Nope, not unreasonable IMO. I'm a SAHM but do childcare 5 days a week, so there is not a chance I would be out that late on a "work" night. If DH wanted to go with someone else, I'd probably say fine, go, but remind him he's not getting an ounce of sympathy from me when he's exhausted and dragging the next few days. Our bedtime is 10 PM, we are old people in 28yo bodies :P

  • Umm no.  I like your idea of having him take someone else, but that would not be worth trying to catch up on sleep for the rest of the week.

  • No.  It is not unreasonable to want more than 3 hours of sleep that night!  Especially when you have to deal with students all day.

  • No, I wouldn't go.  Tell him to get someone else to go with him.

  • I'm probably the minority here, but I would go. Adult time with the H and NFL game, I think that would be a great time. It's one night of sleep and I think it would be well worth being tired the next day. That's just me. But do I think you're being unreasonable? No.

  • There's no way I'd be in for that - it's not like you can just sleep in the next day to make up for a late night.

  • Pre-children.... I would maybe go for it, suffer through tiredness the next day at work and go to bed early the next night. BUT... with DS, there's just no way I'd want to be a tired, cranky bear and have to be mommy at the same time.
