Piper is FINALLY home! (quick birth story included)

Piper's Birth Story:

About 24 hours after my 38w appt where my dr swept my membranes, my water broke.  I was so excited at the chance to be able to VBAC.  After 12 hours of walking the hospital halls, bouncing on an exercise ball, and nipple stimulation with a breast pump (and getting nearly an ounce of colostrum) my contractions never picked up enough to do anything, so we decided to get a few hours of rest and then do a c/s in the morning.  Piper arrived at exactly 9am on 12-5-12.

After a week long stay in the NICU for pneumonia, Piper has finally arrived home.  It feels so good to finally have both my babies under one roof!

Here's a pic of Miss Piper as we were leaving the hospital:

  • She is gorgeous!! So happy she is healthy and home with you all.

Is BFing still as successful as the nipple stimulation with the pump was? That was pretty incredible that you got an ounce before having her!

  • Congratulations! DS had mild pneumonia after he was born, but I was able to stay in the hospital with him. So sorry you had to send her to the NICU, but glad she is healthy now!

I'm assuming she had IV antibiotics for the pneumonia - how did she do with the IV? DS was so active, they had to keep moving it. They finally had to put it in his head because they'd used both hands and feet.

Yes actually, thanks to me having to pump for her during her NICU stay we are actually dealing with an oversupply issue right now.  She is doing great at BFing though so hopefully once my supply evens out things will be smooth sailing.

Yes she had to have IV antibiotics Sad She did ok with the IV but the nurses struggled getting IV's into her, her veins weren't terribly cooperative and would blow out or clog up requiring a new IV site.  They had an IV in each hand and moved down to her feet, and by the time she was on her last 3 doses they were on the second foot, fortunately that one held out long enough for those last few doses.  I can't imagine needing to have them place one in her head, I think that would have put me over the edge.
