Braxton hix?

Alright I'm a little weirded out, but at 26w I don't think I've had any BH. I know I'm a freak for worrying about every little thing and shouldn't compare myself, but I've had a rough go of it so far. Could I be having them and just not really know it or is it too soon for them?

Re: Braxton hix?

  • I never felt them with my first. I didn't feel them until at least my 3rd trimester with my second. I've been feeling them since 14 weeks with this one, and suspect some cramping feelings in the first trimester might have been early ones.

Chances are you just aren't feeling them. I didn't feel anything resembling contractions with my first until the night I went into labor, and those were real contractions, not the practice ones.

  • I never had them with DD#1, and have only had a couple with DD#2. I would try not to worry about it.

  • I'm 28 weeks, and I don't think I've had any.  Although, my OB and birth coach said it's possible to not feel them. My mom said she never had any (or didn't notice them). Don't worry!

  • I didn't think I was feeling them, either, because I'm a FTM and didn't know what they felt like.  Finally, this weekend, I put 2 and 2 together and figured out that I've been having them and feeling them, but I just didn't know they were BH.  For me, my belly feels really heavy low in my abdomen and it gets hard.  The feeling's much different than I thought it would be.  Ever since I figured out what they are, it turns out I've been having them several times a day.

  • I'm 29 weeks and don't think I've had any yet - although I could be like PP and just not sure what I'm feeling :)

Either way - the way it was explained to me (by our Bradley teacher) is that they are "practice" contractions, or basically your body preparing those muscles for the real thing.  If the muscles are already strong enough then it may not need to prepare them, so not everyone gets BH contractions.  I believe it's perfectly normal to have none or to have a ton of them, and when you have them doesn't really make a difference.  So I wouldn't worry if I were you!

  • Not everyone gets them, and not everyone who gets them feels them.  I was probably 34w with DD1 before i started noticing any, but have been feeling them for several weeks this time.

  • Thank you everyone. I feel a lot better now about this. Being a FTM is soooo nerve racking and I haven't even had her yet!
