No signs of dropping?

So ive had mixed opinions from people in my life who say I've dropped and also that I've not droppedbased on appearance. Although I'm 5'8" I believe I have a short torso. I've had and still have awful rib pain where I actually feel cartilage pop and am having difficulty breathing still! My due dates 12/25 but haven't had an internal yet... Anybody else clueless about this whole dropping phenomenon? Is it possible based on anatomy to just not notice. Everyones telling me at my appointments that baby is measuring totally average in size so I don't think it's a large baby issue.... Just frustrated because I am in constant pain and when coworkers make comments to me like, "you're carrying so high, you have a while to go!" i just want to break into tears.

Re: No signs of dropping?

  • I never noticed a moment where I knew DS had dropped, but he did, obviously, haha. With this pregnancy, I don't feel like she's dropped yet, at least not much, but she has gone from neg 5 station to neg 3 station.

Not everyone will get that "lightening" experience, and many babies don't drop until you're labor. Don't worry about it!

  • I haven't had lightening crotch yet. I can tell my regular underwire bras aren't digging into the top of my stomach. I am still feeling kicks and movements higher than I expected so I may not be one where my stomach physically drops since looking at myself I can't tell. My sister swears I have and she only sees me once every few weeks.

Have they checked to see if baby may be breech? I know its a long shot, but my friend just had to have a CSection and complained up until the day that baby was in her ribs. They did a precautionary US at 36 weeks and baby was breech. When she delivered she was lodged in her ribs.

Worst that can happen is you ask your doc to identify the baby parts I have and they'll say "feels like a head, a back, a butt to ease that portion of your mind.

  • I have very little rib pain and the doctor says my baby isn't very low. I suddenly felt a lot of pressure really low and walking was more awkward but when I was checked later that day the doctor told me that she is still pretty high. At this point I've decided not to worry about it. Everything is different for everyone so at this point regular contractions and my water breaking are the only things I am watching for.

  • OMG - I've wanted to scream at like 3 different people today over this exact thing.  I got checked last week, and my OB could feel her head -- She's not super low, but low enough that I'm starting to dilate/efface.  Considering I was 38 weeks, I was happy as a lark to hear that.  Everyone continues to insist that I'm carrying high though, and that I have WEEKS left (due date is this coming Monday).  I'm so ready to be done that I want to cry at the idea of having weeks left.  Really, just mind your own business, k?

  • I have lots of people telling me I haven't dropped...however, for about 2 weeks it's been a lot easier to breathe and he is kicking a lower on my ribs.

At my last appointment I was 50%effaced but not dilated, but I'm just glad that there is some sort of progress since I haven't had ANY contractions of any form. I've been doing squats and walking briskly around my house since the weather where I am hasn't been worth walking in. I have another appointment tomorrow and I'm hoping for a little more progress :) I know I could have weeks left, but I've been waiting on December SO long, I really don't want to go into January!! Lol

  • I'm the opposite but it's just as frustrating.  I have dropped significantly (although I didn't really notice).  My doctor was kind of surprised how low she was at last week's appointment and all of my family/co-workers/friends keep commenting on how much the baby has dropped and she will be here any second.  This baby isn't budging though.

  • Thanks for the kind thoughts! I'm a little concerned cause I have been feeling full blown kicks in my right side where i'm thinkin he may have turned transverse. I just can tell he's moved in the last few days. I have an appointment Wednesday so I think I'll ask for them to verify and I believe I'm getting my first internal however, they keep telling me that and then it doesn't happen.
