Another SIL vent. This is lonnnng.

Because my husband is tired of hearing how much she drives me crazy.

My SIL, you know, the one who had the perfect pregnancy, perfect natural labor and delivery, easiest time breastfeeding, and easiest time loosing the baby weight. She did ZERO research on pregnancy, and babies before her and my BIL decided to get pregnant.

SHE IS SO ANNOYING!

She does this thing..When you say something that she hasn't read in one of her books, or hasn't heard of before, she gives you a look like you have no idea what you're talking about, like you're an idiot. An example would be when her then 2 week old had gunky eyes, I told her to squirt breast milk in his eye and rub the corner. She laughed and said "whatever". I told her I was serious and that it really does help, she says "I have never heard of that, it cannot be real".

SO, last night. I tell her about Emma's 9 month stats. I tell her that her percentile went down and her doctor was happy about that because he said more studies are showing that babies with higher percentiles in weight have a higher risk for diabetes. She give me "the" look and says..."Not breastfed babies, only babies that get formula. People who were breastfed don't run that risk." I'm sorry, whhaaat? I know all the benefits of breastfeeding, but what? I just let it go...because she reads breastfeeding books from the 70's that were her moms. Whatever.

A little bit later I was telling my other 2 SIL's that DH and I are considering adopting our next child. We know that it isn't an easy process and that it takes money and time. It's something that we both want. My annoying SIL hears from a distance and says "no! You guys aren't done having your own children yet, are you? I say "No, we want more biological children, but we would like to adopt before having another one." She says "Have you read anything about THAT?" I say "Yes, I have done quite a bit of research, and I have a few good friends who are adopted, why?" She says "You're not supposed to do it that way, you're supposed to have YOUR OWN first and then adopt."

Ahhh! Anyone else see what is wrong with this?!

I told her that, that's not how we feel and that there isn't one way to adopt.

I just don't know how to act around her, because I feel like holding it in is only going to make me completely BURST. She makes small comments about formula and how awful it is..blah blah blah.

OH, another thing. My SIL and BIL don't have a tv, so I told them about the shooting on Friday. I was tearing up telling them, and when I told her about the president addressing the nation and how he was tearing up, she rolled her eyes and said "yeah, I am so sure"! I am not an Obama supporter, but this pissed me off. When I told her I sat and watched the coverage all day, she said "Why would you do that? I would have shut it off immediately and forgotten it." AHH! I just...I am just so frustrated.

...Oh, and while she was pregnant, I asked her if she had chose a Pediatrician yet and she said.."What's that?!"...

The End.

  • How annoying!! I don't know how you put up with them. And when you have children or adopt them is your business! I wonder if there is a jealousy issue here.

Your SIL sounds like the epitome of the phrase "born on third and thinks she hit a triple." I hate when people have a baby with a good temperament/sleeps well/BF well and they think it is because they are awesome parents. I think we have a pretty happy baby, but I fully acknowledge that we got lucky and when we have #2, we might learn a heck of a lot of humility.

This exactly. I think this all the time about a few of my friends IRL. Your SIL would make me crazy. I would have to either say something to her or stop spending time with her. I don't know what else to say to you, good luck dealing with her in your life! lol.

  • There really is no talking to people who know everything.  I would be tempted just to start messing with her so I was entertained instead of frustrated.  "Hey, SIL, did you know that if you squirt breast milk on your hair it will double in thickness?"  Wink

  • Thanks ladies. We live on the same property right now. We're staying with my MIL and FIL because we just moved up to Wisconsin, from Texas. SIL and BIL live in a trailer literally 500 feet from the house...so I see her so often. I had trouble with her when my BIL dating/engaged to her. I cried at their wedding....not because it was beautiful. It got better and I was happy to finally not hold so much resentment against her...but now I am sick when I think of seeing her. DH thinks I need to talk to her, and I think I do too but I am nervous she'll take it wrong and it will make things worse. ):
