I've made a few calls and swapped my OB for a midwife. Yes, Betty white's twin is now gone. Due to the fact that I'm still inbetween homes thanks to the move, I won't meet her face to face till my 16th wk appt. on the 8th. Howver she sounds great on the phone. Since she works with the local hospital, I can choose where I want to give birth. Most go to a hospital but I just can't stand to be stuck in a bed with a million wires in me and unable to move, nor can I deal with a needle going into my back. If I choose a homebirth apart from a hospital, am I restricted to only hydrobath pain relief?
and I just had to put something under the tree for snowflake.
Re: Homebirth
No drugs at a home birth, but you can use alternative methods (counter pressure on back, TENS machine, herbs) and are free to move around as you please which can help a lot with pain management.
FWIW, I tired to have a home birth with my first. He happened to flip during labor and my contractions changed from manageable normal contractions to back labor. I ended up transferring and with a c-section. I truly believe if he hadn't flipped I could have had the birth naturally - no drugs - but the back labor took it to another level. (I know people who have had natural births and back labor too, btw). I'm having a hospital birth this time b/c I want a vaginal birth after c-section and that's illegal to do at home in NJ.
Give birth where you feel safest and most comfortable.

if your midwife is the one you are going through at the hospital, you shouldn't have to be stuck in the bed and hooked up to monitors. You should ask her. also that way if you do change your mind, those resources are open to you.
FWIW - I had a hospital birth and I wasn't restricted to a bed, and I labored in a tub (they had one in every labor room). They also didn't insist that I be hooked up to any monitors if it wasn't medically necessary.
Also, no one is going to make you take pain medication if you don't want it (epidural or anything else).
I'm confused by your last question:
"If I choose a homebirth apart from a hospital, am I restricted to only hydrobath pain relief?"
Isn't that something you should've asked about before deciding to have a home birth?

I most likely would have bled to death if I had a homebirth. I am very thankful for the doctors and nurses who saved my life.
ETA I also did not have any pain meds and was not hooked up to an IV until after the birth when they couldn't stop the bleeding.
