H and I would like to take a cruise in May, just us. We've never been on a cruise before and there are so many options. Does anyone have any recommendations on which companies are best /I'd love to do Disney but they are pretty pricey/? We want to do either an Alaska/Canadian or Bahamas.
Re: nbr: cruises
DH and I have been on about 12, and I had done three before I met him. Right now, we prefer Royal Caribbean, but we are open to try Celebrity, Holland America, or Princess. Pretty much the only line we will stay away from because of reviews is Norwegian. I hear Disney is very nice, but we hate all things Disney, so I doubt we'll ever sail with them. But I'll never say never on that one.
Let me know if you have any specific questions.
We had a fantastic time on Norweigan!
We felt Carnival was more of a party cruise line.
So there's this boy. He kinda stole my heart. He calls me "Mom"

I've done mainly Carnival going to Mexico on the west coast, so I don't have much to compare it to. When we were little my parents took us on a Disney cruise and from what I remember it is very much targeted towards kids. There are characters on board and all that. If you don't have kids with you, I personally would stay far away from it.
General tips,
Bring alcohol packed in your bags even though they say not to. Drinks are sooo expensive and having a glass of wine before and after dinner without having to pay a bunch was nice.
Try everything! If you don't like the food you get one night, they will bring you out a different entree. Who knows, maybe you'll like escargot!
Plan fun excursions, but also plan relaxing days.
RC was fantastic. Been on lots of their boats, most recent cruise was on Oasis of The Seas. Beautiful boat. I don't think the food is FANTASTIC but it's better than you'd expect. The restaurants which cost a little extra are worth it.
The Disney line is filled with mostly families and young childrem so it wouldn't be romantic, in my opinion. I also think you'd be wishing your LO was with you the whole time.
ETA: Check out the cruise critics website... They have great hints and tips! And also swim with the dolphins!!! Awesome!
This is exactly what I was going to say! I'll also vouch for RC, although Princess is my favorite. Celebrity is really nice, if you just want to relax and don't mind old people.
I've done two Alaskan cruises and pretty much planned the entire cruises using the Alaska board on Cruise Critics. We had an AMAZING time and think it's a must do for anyone interested in Alaska. I'd be happy to answer any questions and you can view some pictures here: https://ouralaskatrip2008.shutterfly.com. Or you can click on my siggy and look for pics from some of my other trips on my Flickr page.
ETA: Here's some videos from our first cruise to AK. Definitely watch the whale watching one!
