What Are You Feeding Your LO's From The Table?

I really want to get DS on more table foods. It's my fault he isn't really eating anything other than the purees. I don't prepare things ahead of time and by the time I get home from work DS is in a tizzy waiting for his food.

He's been eating toast and I've been trying banana, but he spits most of it out. Everything I try to give him, he makes a face at. I'm going to try some plain baked chicken, ham pieces, but what else?

Re: What Are You Feeding Your LO's From The Table?

  • Aria loves veggies. She'll eat any kind that I give her. I just try to keep the pieces around a half inch.

She almost refuses to eat meat. I might get it down her if it's cooked in a sauce or pasta, but just little chunks of meat she'll spit out. Ham is about the only one she'll willingly eat.

Sometimes, if I don't feel like we're eating a balanced enough meal [ahem, like tonight, when I had chicken nuggets... I'll feed her some baby food.

  • My DD is just the opposite! She eats the meat off her tray first. Ground beef from spaghetti sauce, chicken broken up in pieces. She goes crazy for it.

She really eats everything we eat. Last night she had chili (beans, meat and some chopped tomatoes) and shredded cheese. For lunch today she had some turkey, mashed potatoes, broccoli and a few bites of a roll. Tonight, she had some Pad Thai, chicken and mandarin oranges (in water, not syrup).

Breakfast is a really fun time to try table foods. Pancakes in small pieces, scrambled eggs, fruit and sausage in small bites.

  • Rowan was the opposite. Could not, would not, stand purees. Wanted nothing to do with them.

Right now, we just kind of feed her anything off our plates that seems like it wouldn't be an issue for her. She loves mild salsa, guacamole, rice or beans of any kind, any sorts of squashes, and is a huge fan of any sorts of breads. She also likes chewing on cold vegetable spears, especially carrots, celery, and red or green pepper.

  • DD eats whatever we eat. We weren't doing BLW, but it just kind of happened by accident. She wouldn't eat the purees but she'd watch everything that we put in to our mouths, so we start letting her have tastes. Eventually she picked up momentum, and now she'll pretty much eat anything... Except carrots.. She still hates carrots! LOL
  • My go to meal for DS if I don't have anything suitable from our dinner the night before is a scramble. I steam some frozen vegetable medley in chicken broth to add flavor (I just use the microwave) then I scramble up some egg beaters (from a carton) and add some shredded cheese at the end then stir in the steamed veggies (sometimes I'll add a slice of lunch meat cut into small pieces).

For dessert if he's still hungry I'll give him greek yogurt or organic applesauce.
