Babies on the Brain

Anyone read the Game of Thrones books?

(I know, the series is actually called song of fire and ice or something lame like that. game of thrones sounds way better.)

A friend lent me the first book and it took me forever to get into it. Now I'm hooked though, and almost halfway through the third. Anyone else read these?

The same friend lent me season 1 of the HBO adaptation but I haven't watched it yet. Curious how it holds up to the books.

  • I've been reading the second one for months now (darn grad school getting in the way of my readin'!).  They're OK, but they haven't really held my attention like other series have.  I haven't seen the TV show, so I couldn't say how close it is to the books.

  • I've read all the books. Only seen ep 1 of season 1. I really liked the books. They get addicting after awhile even if they are long. I'm the type of person who has to finish what's she's started reading to find out what happened and its driving me crazy that there isn't another book!

  • I like to do reading challenges every year (this year was 60 books in 2012-I've made it 34 books or so), and I think next year will be the year of the long book. The next Outlander book is scheduled to be released in the fall, so I'll reread that series. The Game of Throne books are also on the list for next year.

  • Yes!

I recently plowed through all 5 books and I loved them.

I'm irritated that it seems like it will be 2 years for book 6 and who knows HOW long for book 7.  Grrr!  ;-)

I haven't yet watched the HBO series, but a friend of mine said that the first season stayed pretty close to book 1.

  • I am half way through the book 5. I think book 2 and 3 were my favorites, I went through them in like 2 weeks because I just couldn't put them down. I am looking forward to this winder holiday so I can get back to the rest of the book 5. I think generally HBO stays close to the book in their season 1s like true blood. I'm curious to see what they'll do next season.

    this!

I have lost steam on the last book published because I know there will be a cliffhanger and I will have to wait for the next book to come out
