High-Risk Pregnancy

Does you BP fluctuate A LOT?

So I am on bed rest for HBP. I knew it would happen as I have chronic HBP but it has been controlled up until a week ago. Thankfully the protein found in my urine after a 24 hr collection was low so I was sent home (I had spent a night in L&D after my BP has spiked to 144/102 in docs office). My BP while laying down hangs around anywhere in the 120-140/75-89s. However when I get up to go to the bathroom or just grab a drink it can sky rocket back to 150/100s. Therefore, I have really tried to stay sitting or laying down as much as possible.

But today something odd happened. I had a rather irritating phone call with a Tar..get.com order and had been out in my living room making the call. I went back to my bedroom to just see what my BP was and it read 160/120! Before freaking out I decided to immediately lay on my left side and re-check it. It then read 140/79. It had to be no more then a minute since the first reading. I just got the monitor checked last week and it seemed to be accurate. Does anyone else's BP fluctuate that much in a short time frame? Is that even possible?

Re: Does you BP fluctuate A LOT?

  • Yes your BP does flucuate, but when taking you are supposed to wait at least 5 mins before retesting.  Previous pregnancy was on bedrest for high BP as long as I was laying down it stayed 130/87 but if I got up orsat up it went 150/100.  good luck

  • Mine fluctuates that fast too. Kind of crazy! I'm on BR for PIH and have a hard time laying down when the readings are fine but I'm always surprised how fast they can go back up too.

  • I have been on modified bed rest...with a few weeks on strict...since 13 weeks die to HBP. My BP does the same thing. It is really quite odd because before we had my medication straight I could go from 150/98 to 110/78 with a simple walk to the bathroom. Lucky, my meds have me stable for now! It is hard to explain to people and some even don't believe me! But my doc has been great and although my resting numbers arr good I have to remember I am on mbr to keep them that way!!

  • The last 2 weeks or so I have been having CRAZY spikes in my BP (but so far no pre-e)...until about 33 weeks my baseline was about 130/75 and now it's running in the 150s/80s, with spikes in the 160s and 170s for seemingly no reason. I'm about 35 weeks, just got put on bed rest, was just in L&D for labs/monitoring all day, and I can't imagine making it another 4 weeks like this.

  • My BP unfortunately does the same thing! At home laying down, it will be 120/75 and when I get up and go into the doctors office it will be 140/80 +. I have been on bedrest for the last 9 days, to try and control my BP and then was diagnosed with preeclampsia after a 24 hour urine collection. Tomorrow will be 34 weeks and the plan is to deliver on Jan 11th (37 weeks) as long as my BP can stay where it is. I know it is best for my LO, but I am already going a little stir crazy with three weeks left!
