Wedding WWYW

We are attending the wedding of a childhood friend next weekend. The ceremony is at 2. It's in SoCal so it won't be that cold. I was thinking of wearing a dress I bought for DH's company Christmas party. It's a black, knee length dress. I wore a silver cardigan over it to the holiday party. Is it ok to wear black to a wedding?

Re: Wedding WWYW

  • Around here in ct everyone wears blackto weddings. But since tthat's a day time wedding I would try to wear a color.

  • I've never wear black to a wedding but every wedding I've been to a good portion of people are wearing black.

  • Black is my go to wedding color. Most weddings I go to are formal and most people wear black cocktail dresses.
  • Since it's a day wedding, I would wear a color. But I do wear black to weddings if they're in the evening.
  • I think black is appropriate, I just choose not to wear black to weddings.  Around here, everyone does and I prefer color.

I guess this is an UO, but I find black dresses boring for the most part

I wouldn't, especially for a daytime wedding in SoCal. An evening wedding on the east coast, maybe, but probably still wouldn't. The only time I wore all black to a wedding was a New Year's Eve wedding that started at 8pm.

I agree with this. If it was an evening affair I think black would be acceptable but since it's daytime nice out I would go for a color.

  • I would be more concerned with all-white/cream than black...  It's all in how you dress it up and give a color splash...  If that splash is silver, given that it's so close to Christmas, it's fitting...

  • I wear black to weddings all the time, never thought about it. And I've never looked out of place, day or evening.

  • Yes, lots of people wear black to weddings, especially evening weddings.

For a daytime wedding I'd probably wear a color other than black as they're usually less formal.

BTW, OP, is this the wedding of the friend who FB posted that her wedding party would be "starting from scratch"?nbsp; How did that all work out?nbsp; That was you, right?nbsp; I've been meaning to ask you about it...

Haha that was me! This is a different friend. A normal, sane, not self centered one.

I'm am officially out, although my husband will still be a part of their wedding party. We still play bunco together, so I hear wedding details that way. They are getting married at the same place H and I had our reception, the week before our five year anniversary, and have the same colors we had. They considered having it the day after our five year anniversary but decided to go with the week before.

Side bar I am not self centered enough to think that everyone I know will never do somethings the way I did, where I did them, or near when I did them, I just thought it was kinda funny that so many details were similar. I am in a much ether place now that she plays a much smaller role in my life. Thanks for asking!

  • I agree. It's a compliment, even if that's not how she intended it.

PPs I think in going to take my chances and wear the black dress, silver cardigan and gray shoes. Thanks for the help!
