Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

On the go foods.

Hi guys,

I have 16 month old twins and I generally use the squeeze packs for on the go, but I was wondering what some of you use when you are out and about. We will be gone all day saturay, and I wante to try something besides the squeeze packs. any uggestions? Thanks in advance

Re: On the go foods.

  • That's a good question because it can be hard to give them on the go foods that are also healthy.  They sell these organic fruit snacks that come in little packets.  They are the organic version of fruit roll ups and they usually work in a pinch.  Sometimes I carry the small packaged of mini fig newtons.  I'm currently on crutches and don't have time to cut up food and put them into tupperware containers, so these pre packaged snacks are what she gets.  Sometimes we carry string cheese, too.  I will be interested to hear what other posters say.

  • If you need a meal idea, I put hummus on a piece of bread like a sandwich.  My DD loves that!  She also likes Ritz crackers, graham crackers, goldfish, or yogurt melts.

  • I do peanut butter sandwiches or peanut butter crackers alot. Also what the other posters said..crackers, bananas, puffs. If I'm going to be gone all day I will just take a little cooler bag with string cheese or we will just grab something while we are out.
  • Great ideas ladies!!!  I was needing a few extra ideas too!!  We pack blueberries, fruit squeezes, goldfish, cheerios, teddy grahms, cheese sticks.

  • My Dr. told me NO peanut butter till they are 3. She said the more they are exposed to it when they are little the more likly they are to develop the peanut allergy.
  • This is my favorite snack helper in the world - I make him smoothies in it but other moms will put soup or applesauce, whatever you can think up in it (oh, and they're finally on Amazon Prime now, too, just checked):

  • We do yogurt melts, cheese sticks, dried fruit or dehydrated fruit, raisins, crackers, cheerios, sometimes dehydrated peas. Sometimes I'll pack sandwiches to go with us - PB&J (our doc was fine with our girls having it at 1) or hummus with shredded carrots on pita bread.

  • Snack mix that is always in his bag:

    -  Cheerios

    -  Goldfish

    -  Yogurt Drops

    -  Craisins

    -  Raisins

    -  Sometime for a treat, we'll throw in a few mini - mini marshmallows...I'm talking smaller than a pea.

Otherwise, we always have a squeezie pack or two of fruits/vegetables or throw in a string cheese.

  • Goldfish, cheerios, Ritz crackers, and those little packs of cracker peanut butter sandwiches are great too.

  • nutragrain bars

    squeezable pouches (applesauce)

    String cheese

    fig newtons

bunny snack mix (pretzels and cheese bunnies) huge hit right now

peanut butter +marshmellow spread sandwich (marshmellow spread is only 4g of sugar where jelly is 16g for same serving size).

fruitable juice boxes (7g of sugar where regular juice is also about 15g). We only put water in a sippy so they never ask me for juice...juice is only in a juice box and when we are out for special occasions.

then regular goldfish, cereals, puffs, melts....toddler snacks.

I am sure you know this with twins but I have learned with mine to bring 2 of everything. So 2 strawberry nutragrain bars (otherwise fights break out if someone gets blueberry and the other gets strawberry!)
