Minivan owners

I know this is asked quite often but...We're considering purchasing a minivan soon - if you drive one, which one do you have and what do you like/dislike about it? Also, do you find the FWD an issue (especially if you live in cold climate)? We're also looking at the Acadia, Traverse and Enclave but I think they may be too small for our needs. Thanks!

Re: Minivan owners

  • We bought our Honda Odyssey a month before the twins were born in 2008.  It has been AWESOME!!  I love the sliding doors, heated seats, and room.  Everytime we go out of town, my husband and I are shocked how much we can fit inside.  The van is also great for park trips for changing diapers or using the potty when you get to that point.  Highly recommend.

  • We have a Honda Odyssey and love it.  I cannot think of one thing that I do not like about it.  We have snow here already and it does fine for the most part but slides around as any car would on ice.  We previously had an AWD VW Touareg which was awesome in the snow but I the benefits of the minivan far outweigh that.

  • I have a VW Routan.  I like it, but I am not a mini van person so I can't gush.  It does the job and my dog can't hang over the kids heads and drool on them anymore.  The remote doors are really nice though.  I have not had it for a winter yet.  It has these eco tires on it and we will get new ones because they slide in the rain.  That is my only real recommendation.  Make sure they are regular tires and not the eco ones (harder rubber).

  • We bought a 2008 Chevy Uplander a few months back. My favorite thing about it is that we were able to pay the difference between it and our trade-in in cash. We looked at the Honda and Toyota vans and really liked them but we can't justify spending that kind of money (even the used ones are pricey) on a vehicle. Friends of ours have a 2005 Uplander that has over 180,000 miles and is still going strong.

  • We have a 2011 Dodge Caravan. I love it! The sliding doors are great. I love all the room we have also.

  • We have a 2011 Honda Odyssey. Love it.

Love the sliding doors, love the buttons to open the sliding doors,  love the backup camera, love how easy the 3rd row goes up and down.

We're in Texas so we haven't had to deal with snow or ice.

  • My Grand Caravan is 6 1/2 years old so its missing a ton of the newer features but I love it overall.  I didn't get the rear door open thing and I would do that next time, that rear door is heavy!

  • I really dislike driving a minivan. They are huge, and we don't need that much space for only 2 kids. Unfortunately, it's paid off, so I will be driving it for awhile.

    Toyota Sienna

our only 2 chocies were ODessy or Sienna. Best to last without mechanical problems.

    Love it.

Live in Texas so no info re cold climates.

This is us too, though we're in Central Florida. I wish it had the hidden storage under the floors but oh well. We go the most sporty version we could get because DH said we had to. We like it!

  • Thanks for the responses. We'll see how our test drives go!

  • We are eyeing the Sienna.  We've test driven and despite being anti-minivan, I think we will eventually get one in a few more months.  Rides nice and seems really convenient.  Love the back up cam which seemed standard.  I think the Sienna is one of the better looking of minivans.

Yes This is my next choice or the Tiguan/ Tourareg. I'm on my third Jetta and wouldn't buy any other brand of car even my IL's agree they are on their second Jetta TDI. VW makes great stuff.

  • Honda Odyssey here too.  I love it.  I like the amount of space and storage and the ease with which trips go now.  It will be even more awesome when the kids are all facing forward and eventually out of car seats but first things first ;-)
