I recomend a book like this. When our nephews lived with us (starting at 2 1/2 and 6 for 3 years) we bought an older version of this book and did TONS of these experiments with them. My husband is excited to get to start getting the book our with our DD now :-)
Your post had me thinking about the book so I pulled it out. We actually have this one and I highly recommend it. The other has a lot of the same experiments (based on the table of contents) but this one has a lot more. Also, I was a long term sub when the boys lived with us once they were both in school and I have used this book for high school science class where I had kids pull experiments from it to do so it ranges from very young all the way up.
