s/o baby monitor

babymom's fffc reminded me to ask, at what point do you think you'll drop the monitor completely? I am a crazy heavy sleeper but Q's room is right next to mine and the walls are pretty thin so i can easily hear him during the night if he's very loud. The monitor just kinda amplifies the quieter sounds for me.

But at what point are you going to not really need to hear them in their rooms? At what point is it creepy to have a camera in there?

Re: s/o baby monitor

  • We hooked our video monitor up while LO was still bedsharring, just to keep an eye on DS and his antics. So, we're keeping ours out for a while.

We only turn it on now if we hear something, to check and see if LO needs laid back down or is just making noises.

I have no idea.  D is moving even farther from our room when baby2 comes so I'm sure i'll have one in both rooms for a while yet.  Maybe when he is old enough to leave his room and come to my room.

This is what I was thinking. We are getting a second camera for #2... even thought we'll room-share for a few weeks. It will be useful for naptime, etc.

I think we'll keep the camera monitor in DS' room until he can really either call out for us on his own or come get us. (Plus, I'm addicted to checking up on him on the monitor!)

This is all we do now, too. We will probably leave it in there until she's big enough to get out if bed herself or we have another baby, whatever comes first.

  • I'm not sure. I need white noise when I sleep so I can't hear him. Maybe when he is old enough to come get me if he needs me?
  • you mean I have to stop using the video monitor at some point? I will always want to check on him! Maybe until puberty LMAO! JK - kinda

  • I'm guessing when she moves out of the nursery...not sure when that will be, somewhere between this spring to fall.

We actually don't use the monitor at night, we just open the doors. We only use it for naps and in the evening before we go to bed.

  • Eh, we're sporadic about using it now, so I'm not sure how much longer it'll last.  We needed it during the summer when our room and DD's room (though right next to each other) both had a/c units in the windows and we all slept with the doors closed and a/c running, but we don't need it otherwise.  We'll put it on in the kitchen at night sometimes when we're up watching TV, but we don't always remember and we generally hear her if she gets up anyway, unless we're watching a loud movie or something.

We'll probably continue this sporadic use until summer and see what her sleeping situation is then (big bed and able to get up on her own?  potty training?  still in a crib?).

  • No idea. We use the video w/o sound. I can hear him just fine, but I like to check on him to see if he needs something or is just being noisy.

  • I want to use it forever! I love being able to check on her. Plus, unless she is really crying, I don't usually hear her apart from the monitor.

  • I really don't know. We only have a sound monitor but our rooms are next to each other and even the walls are cement we can hear him very well when he cries or even when he is just "talking" and playing in his crib.

  • We are still using one for my almost 3yo. I plan to use them until they are able to get out of bed and come get us if they need something. DD1 is really old enough/able to do that now, but she won't for some reason I haven't been able to pick out of her little toddler brain, so we'll use the monitor for the forseeable future.

  • I dropped it around 11 months, when we were weaning from MOTN nursing.  I can hear him VERY easily from our room though.  I could have dropped it at 9 months when we moved.

With #2 I'm going to get a video montior.  We really regretted not getting one with Aug.

I'm thinking this as well. Not only do we have white noise, we also keep our bedroom doors closed so the cats don't come in and bother us or DD. We only have a sound monitor.

We just have a sound monitor too. I plan on getting a video one when I find a good deal. I definitely want one with the next one when that time comes.

  • We stopped using it around 6-8 months. It's still hooked up though, so we use it if we're outside in the yard while he's napping. Or we hook it up for babysitters, if we think they need it (grandma!).
