C-sections

Is this normal?

I am a little over 3 months post C-section with my DS. I have noticed that my incision site is very pink. There is no oozing, I don't have a fever, but the skin above the incision and all the way up to my belly button is still a bit tender at times, like the skin is desensitized or just less responsive to touch, if that makes any sense.

Should I be concerned at the color of my incision line if there is no oozing or other signs of infection?

Re: Is this normal?

  • I think my incision is still a pinkish color-- assuming you're talking about the color of new skin, it's normal. (If you mean bright pink and it's hot to the touch, that's bad).

Also, my incision is still desensitized- for some people, the nerves never heal and it's always like that.

Now, if it is actually tender like it is sensitive or hurts, I would go get that checked out.

It's bright pink but not hot to the touch. The incision itself is not tender and does not hurt, so I'm not sure what to do.

  • It could just be a slight rash or yeast infection on your skin.  You can use Cortizone cream on it or your OB can prescribe Nystatin for it.  Either way--just call your doc to make sure it's nothing serious.

  • It could be the new skin.  I am 11 months PP and mine is slight pink in some areas but no rash or anything

  • Is it a keloid? I'm 5 months out from my second CS and both scars have keloided. Although, this scar is much cleaner compared to my first which was an emergency.

A little tender at times but it doesn't bother me.
  • Mine is still somewhat desensitized 2.5 years later

Sounds like nerve damage to me, it's normal. I noticed a spot on the side of my left knee that had a weird sensation when I touched it just a few days after my C section and I asked my doctor and she said that's what it was and that it may always be like that. It still is to this day, so who knows. I wouldn't be too concerned but you could always ask your regular doctor the next time you go back.
