That's all I got sent home with...even with my tiny belly, the contractions were registering, but since the ultrasound showed no placenta previa, good fluid and a long cervix they sent me home for 24 hours strict bed rest. Not even any fluids. With my last two babies, they checked me at about 28 weeks because I complained of contractions and found I was dialated to 2 and nearly fully effaced, this time they don't do an exam, just use ultrasound to measure cervical length, I don't understand how they can make a clear determination of any cervical change that way. I mean I guess I feel like I could tolerate the pain and discomfort from contractions if I knew it wasn't causing any dilation. I was too exhausted to worry about it then, but after lying here all day I'm thinking of all they could do to ensure we do not go into full blown premature labor. Off my feet I have only had one contraction, but my belly is still sore. Well, sorry this is so negative, I'm just so worried I will need to be on full bed rest and I cannot possibly justify doing my job full time from home for the next 15 weeks. Thanks in advance for any advice and your thoughts

Re: Contractions and bleeding @ 24 weeks-bedrest?
I'm sorry you're going through this-- it would be scary and unnerving, even if you felt the docs were being super thorough.
Did you go in to the emergency room or to your OB? I would call the OB's office back and speak to the doctor on call about your concerns. I would expect your belly to be sore if you had been having contractions-- like any muscle that gets exercised more than normal, it would be sore. But if this does not feel right to you, then call. You have a right to have your questions answered.

So sorry you are going through this. I am sure it is very scary and you want answers! I agree with the PP that if you aren't comfortable with the info you were sent home with then call and ask for clarification/further examination.
That being said, I was send to L&D a few weeks ago due to spotting and pain. They did a transvag U/S to check my cervical length as well as an U/S to make sure my fluid levels and placenta were okay. As far as I know they can tell if your cervix is long and closed from the transvag.
