14 month old dairy intolerance?

I posted a long time ago when my son was 6 months old, he wasn't growing so the doctor did all kinds of tests and found nothing. I did an elimination diet while breast feeding and found that he did better when I stayed away from all dairy. He also reacts badly to carrots (throws up). We started him on cows milk at 1 year and he seemed to be doing fine until about 6 weeks ago. He started getting diaper rash, but it looked more like a burn and would peel and seep blood and scab over if I didn't keep Vaseline on it. My mom is a nurse and saw his bottom when this was happening. So this last Friday she mentioned that it was strange that he never has a solid poop and frequently has watery poop. I guess I'm just clueless because it hadn't really occurred to me. Anyway, she suggested I try rice milk for a few days. It's been four days and his rash is completely healed, he is sleeping better, and the barely noticeable rash that he has had on his arms and tummy is gone as well. I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and what you did next. I'm taking him in for a well child visit Friday and don't want to come across as a crazy mom who just thinks there is something wrong that isn't there. I'd love any feedback. Thanks!

  • I don't think I can help much as I don't have any experience with intolerance, only true allergies. If he's significantly doing better off dairy then I would continue with keeping that up. If there aren't any nut allergies try almond milk. My DD does very well on that.

  • We went to the allergist and had a scratch test. DS has a milk protein intolerance, no allergy. So we're ok to try cheese and yogurt but no milk or ice cream. He is doing much better after being milk free for a full two weeks. Thank you :)
