October 2011 Moms

Geneticist appt

We went over my numbers.  I didn't like how my proteins in my blood barely brought up my number from my age factor, but not enough to risk amniocentesis.  I decided to to the Verifi prenatal test that is really new.  It checks the chromosomes in my blood, which would include the baby's.  99.9% accurate on finding Downs Syndrome.  Bad part is it has to be sent out for the results to another facility and risks my military health care not covering all of it. She tries coding and can guarantee it won't be over $200 out of pocket.  I can swallow that for some piece of mind!! We should know before the New Year what the results are.

The ultrasound showed a cyst she said usually goes away.  Measured everything.  Anyone had this before? I was there for probably an hour with her checking and measuring. I will go back in January to do the heart again because it was so tiny.  Verified again that it is a boy. Everything measured fine.  No red flags for thick skin on the skull or the facial identifiers, so that was great news!

Thanks ladies for the support today.  This past week has been especially nuts.  I didn't have half this drama when I was pregnant with Izzy.

Re: Geneticist appt

  • I had a cyst while pregnant with Gator. My OB didn't seem concerned and said most go away. It was gone before I delivered Gator.

Hopefully the rest of your results come out 100 percent clear so you are able to relax a little!

  • I'm glad you had good news, I've been thinking about you today.  I also had a cyst, and my ob didn't think it was a big deal, and actually said it was quite common.

    Congratulations on the little boy!

  • I did not have a cyst so I can not say anything about that. I can tell you that I went through genetic counseling and ended up having an amnio. The new blood test was just starting to be discussed but it was not available yet. I am so glad it is available for you! I would have chosen the blood test over the amnio any day!

I am so glad that baby is looking great! Best wishes to you and please keep us updated!

Thank you! Lol, she said he is 8oz, the size of a stick of butter.  That made me smile.

I had a cyst when pregnant with both the boys which went away.

Levi had three cysts in his brain that went away by 27 weeks

Yeah it was so cool to hear about this new test.  They are trying to get it supported by their lab.  I am again impressed with the Bethesda Naval Hospital.

I am so glad they went away! Ok, seems pretty common. I guess they will just check near the end to see if it goes away.  Thanks.
