Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Puffs

My daughter is almost 7 months old and she is doing really great with her purees. I was wondering when everyone or if anyone has given their babies puffs or puffed snacks? Is it too early? She isn't quite crawling yet and I know they say crawling but does that really matter? Just curious.

Re: Puffs

  • i started giving it to my LO right around the time he hit six months... i started giving them to him in small broken pieces... then the chunks got bigger. and now he takes the whole thing without a problem. he loves them. he is even starting to pick them up off his high chair tray and try to get them in his mouth himself.

i know i am a little early but he sits unassisted and seemed to be ready.

That is what I was thinking. I was just worried about her choking on them but the package says they melt in your mouth lol

  • They don't melt as quickly as I anticipated when I started them with LO. Like the previous poster suggested, try small pieces first. My DD is still figuring it out and we've been doing it for a month.

  • We just started putting 2 on his high chair this week so he can practice picking them up. I broke one into small pieces and put a bit in his mouth. I tried one and they don't melt that fast.

  • My LO did not do well with the puffs, but I think it was because they taste like cardboard. He did better with the yogurt melts and although it has been about a month, he is just starting to eat them by himself.

  • i've been giving them to LO every now and then and she can't crawl yet, but has been eating purees for almost a month, and she can sit, and grab/pinch with her hands/fingers. she can kinda put them in her mouth, and others are on the floor! LOL but she will put them in her mouth, and munch, about half are swallowed, and slightly gagged on, and others kinda slipped back out of her mouth.

  • Helen really likes the apple cinnamon flavored puffs. Started giving them to her a week or so before she hit 8 months. Buy a container and try one yourself, they dissolve pretty quick, and like PP said, you could always break them into pieces if you'd like! DD has 7 teeth that are already all grown in, so she actually CHEWS them (I think she's ready for corn on the cobb, lol). I put them in front of her for her to pick up herself, which is fun to watch and good for dexterity. Also it's a good diversion while I'm getting her bottle and food ready at night Wink I only put one down at a time and make sure she's all done before giving her another because I'm not 100% confident that she wouldn't cram more than one in her mouth. DD isn't crawling yet, but sits great and likes to stand (while holding onto things).

I say give it a shot!

  • My LO is the same age. We saw the pediatrician yesterday and she said to go ahead with the puffs. He isn't crawling yet either.
  • Thanks for all the great advise! I got a container of the apple cinnamon puffs and maple waffle wheels. I think I will save the waffle wheels for her stocking and let her have the puffs now.
