Re: 15 month apt ?

  • Good questions! Taylor's apt was supposed to be today but I had to cancel. It will be good to keep in mind some of these answers when we do go in Jan!

  • She asked if he said any words and what they were, if he still used a bottle and was very pleased when we said no only sippies and straw cups, asked if he scribbled at all, was climbing on things, any foods he didnt like or wouldn't eat.

He got the MMR shot, the chickenpox shot, and his first flu shot. We go back in a month for his flu booster shot.

He did not like being on the exam table for anything. He cried and screamed. He screamed when he got the shots but as soon as I took him off the table he stopped crying. The pedi and nurse couldn't believe he was smiling and waving to everyone when he walked out of the exam room.

  • Pretty much everything everyone else has mentioned. She also asked if he could point things out in a book, identify body parts, stack blocks, put smaller objects into bigger objects, mimic chores (like wiping things with a cloth). She stressed that these are 15-18 mth behaviors and not to worry if he wasn't doing all of them.

He hates the doctor, so he screamed anytime I put him down or someone else touched him. He was not a fan of the 3 shots either. He's running a fever right now (appt was on Wednesday), so I don't know if it's related.

  • After reading the post above about being referred to speech therapy it reminded me of a couple other questions I was asked at his check up.

She wanted to know if he could stack 2 blocks (he can) and if he knows where his belly is (he does and other people's too).  I mentioned that he knows where his nose is and other people's too.  She was very pleased with that.

  • We discussed many of the things other posters have already mentioned. She focused on safety for the most part. He had 3 shots and a blood draw. He cried a little with the shots and screamed bloody murder for the blood draw. He was fine as soon as I picked him up and had no reactions after his shots.

  • We talked about how much he should be comprehending by now. she said I should be able to tell him to get his shoes, and without pointing to them, he should know what I mean (shoes as an example). She asked how muvh talking he is doing, and seemed content when I said not much - but he knows sounds and what a cow, cat, duck, monkey says. Owen started crying hysterically as soon as the exam began so the Dr had to speak loudly over Owen, it was a mess. he didn't handle the shots well!
