SIL update

SIL is good. They kept her over night. Gave her 2 or 3 of those shots to stop contractions. She is fine. They said she is getting a bladder infection and it caused the contractions?? I've never heard of that before... but okay...

Her levels are all back up on the high scale of normal, so we are all happy and celebrating today. SIL hasn't been put on any special restrictions or anything. The whole thing is odd to me. Her OB didn't tell her to do anything different just sent her on her way this afternoon after all the levels were up. I had 2 very blessed healthy and boring pregnancies. I don't know protocol for stuff like this. I just thought maybe they would be putting her on bedrest or something. Guess I'm wrong! Anyway, thank you all for the thoughts and prayers. They worked. Baby is gonna cook and hopefully stay in there till she is a plump 40 weeks! lol.

Re: SIL update

  • That's great news. I had 3 UTIs while pregnant. It's not a good thing because it can cause contractions. My third did. I was 25 weeks or so. They gave me a pretty strong, but safe, drug to get rid of it. I had bleeding and contractions at the time. They didn't want to risk preterm labor. It never works for me, but I've heard drinking cranberry juice will help keep her from getting one again. She should make sure they check her urine for the UTI at her next appointment. Sometimes it takes a little more work to kill the infection. They'll want to watch it.

  • I had the exact same thing happen to me when I was pregnant with DD 14 years ago.  I was just kept in all day with IV drugs.  Antibiotics and drugs to stop the contractions.  All due to a urinary tract infection that I didn't even realize I had!  So yes, it can happen.  I'm glad she's doing better.  The rest of my pregnancy was completely healthy and I gave birth to an 8lb 3oz baby :)

  • Wow that is crazy to hear! I had NO idea that was even possible!!! I'm glad you ladies were okay in the end too. Man how scary!

I have constant UTIs due to a short urinary tract. I don't know what that means, exactly, other than I have a standing prescription. I can call my doctor, tell him I've got one, and he calls it in. My kidneys have almost hit failure mode in the past. The fact that I only had 3 while pregnant was a miracle. In fact, my doctor was worried I wouldn't be able to have children because of my past with them. Basically, he was afraid my kidneys would fail if I got pregnant and the infections stayed chronic. I think he was overly cautious. I had fewer than normal, and less severe, while pregnant. DD went past her due date in the end and is perfectly healthy. Your SIL will be fine!
