Trying to Get Pregnant

Diagnose me, please

It?s been years since I?ve posted so I?m not a regular but I remember this board as being a great resource.  There is something going on with my body and with all the medical knowledge on the board, I thought I could get a couple opinions :-)

About 2.5 weeks after my period started, I began having cramps every day? not super bad, but pretty much all day - weirdly, it felt similar to both my period and the stretching pains you get in early pregnancy).  But, it was two weeks before my period was due and they lasted for a full week (today is the first day they?re not bothering me throughout the day).

We are not trying to get pregnant and use condoms ? I took a pregnancy test two days ago which was negative (this was probably 10DPO or so but that?s a guess because I?m not charting or keeping track).  My period is due in about 4-5 days.

Basically, I want to know what could be causing this cramping right in the middle of my cycle?   I've googled and came up with ovarian cysts, endometriosis, ovarian cancer...

I know the first piece of advice I?m going to get is to go to the doctor, but to add to the confusion we moved to a third world country four months ago for my husbands job? I don't speak the language well and while I?ll of course go to the doctor if I really need to, it?s more than a little bit scary to try to figure out what is going on here!

Thanks in advance!

Re: Diagnose me, please

  • Has this only happened once?  I'd lean toward not being concerned unless it continues.  Unfortunately an internet message board is not going to be able to "diagnose you."

  • Don't rely on Internet strangers for a diagnosis. Honestly, mid cycle cramping could be anything... like ovulation pains, a small cyst or it could be absolutely nothing. I've Had random cramping that literally meant nothing at all.

  • When I had my IUD in I would have mid cycle bleeding and cramping.

Unfortunatly though I don't know what else would cause cramping...and I doubt anyone else here will be able to either :/

  • Has your diet changed dramatically since your move? I had similar symptoms during my first semester at college...the change from home cooked meals to terrible dining hall mystery food and pizza on payday gave me tummy troubles.

Good luck! Whatever it is, I hope you feel better soon. Sounds like no fun at all!

Oh no Windy.  Your problem is that you have some embies making your Ute their home for the next 9 months.  Duh!

  • I live in a third world country with a water sanitation problem - trying to poop is definitely not the issue:-)

Seriously, though, I'm not looking for an actual diagnosis and/or someone to take the place of a doctor. It's just really nerve-wracking being so far from home and all the resources I used to take for granted (i.e., I would have put in a quick call to my gyn if I was in NY).  So, I was looking for more of a 'I had a cyst and it felt the same' ... so I get a better sense for whether or not I need to brave the medical system here.

I'll probably wait it out and only follow up with a doctor if it happens again next month.

Thanks for the advice, both serious and funny!!

  • Every couple cycles or so I have cramp-like pain (sometimes front, sometimes back, sometimes both) starting at ovulation that continues most days until AF. It's super annoying. Unfortunately, for me. It doesn't point to anything. I had similar pain when I did have a cyst that eventually ruptured (didn't stop at AF that time), I had it when I was KU with DD (again didn't stop because I didn't get AF) and I've had it plenty of cycles where I wasn't KU, AF came and it went away. I realize this doesn't seem helpful, but I'm just trying to reassure that it could be normal. Cramping at ovulation is normal, cramping before AF is normal and sometimes they both drag out and meet in the middle. Unless the pain is extreme or doesn't go away with AF, I wouldn't stress it.

The problem is that one person could say they had a cyst and it was like that and another could say that had a gall stone and it was like that and another could say they had indigestion and it was like that. What your feeling could be any number of things.
