Santa: If looks could kill

If looks could kill then our LO took out Santa tonight. H and I took her all dressed up. She was pointing and twirling showing tons of excitement then..... It was our turn. She stopped dead in her tracks and just glared the most hateful look at him. I picked her up and took her over and she covered her face and screamed. Her dress is halfway up showing her panties for all to see. So I ended up in the next pic holding her far away. In this pic she is glaring down the camera lady ticked off and I look horrible FAT with my pregnant self and huge sweater on that didnt help. O the joys of xmas. Anyone else with a fun story?

  • She loved it besides going up to him. She was even standing away afterwards yelling bye santa. I bought the pics bc they are priceless and fun. My H has a pic at same age almost the same.

  • We had DD's picture taken with Santa and she just sat next to him on a sleigh and he kind of leaned in and smiled. I think that if she'd had to sit right in his lap, we probably wouldn't have gotten a picture of her smiling. :)

I won't be forcing DS to visit Santa or the Easter Bunny or whoever until he's old enough to understand what he's doing and want to go.nbsp; I will never understand parents who force their kids to sit on a stranger's lap.nbsp; Sorry you didn't get the experience you wanted.
    Bah humbug.

Lol, bah humbug. I was thinking the same thing. Our LO has been exposed to fictional characters her whole life and I wouldnt take age as a reason to not see Santa. We just went to disney and she hugged, played picaboo and highfived all the characters and had a blast. I believe in experiences and giving our LO every experience she can have. Just because a single moment was scary doesnt mean Im not going to allow the experience. We cant hold on forever they have to try new things and explore. As a parent if its safe to experience it Im going to sllow it. If she gets scared that is a natural emotion that we talk about later. There are thousands of things in life that will scare her.

We will be going to a winterwonderland exibit next week at our childrens museum with a much calmer santa area then the mall. If she chooses to go up she can. I would never hold her back from the excitement!!!

Yeah I really don't get it.  I want my kid to be polite but also wary of strangers. I can't see how it's a good idea to force him to let a stranger hold him when it's obviously upsetting him.  He's young but he should have some say over what happens to his body and when he makes it clear he's uncomfortable with someone for any reason, it's my job to remove him from the situation and make him feel safe, not force him to stay for a photo op.

Sorry if that sounds preachy but this is one of my pet peeves.  Those pictures of horrified, crying kids with Santa make me feel really bad.

I actually think I agree with this line of reasoning... We may try it, but if he looks like he's going to cry, I'm totally not going to force it. We did visit Santa a few weeks ago just to say hi but DS didn't want to sit on his lap so I didn't push it.
