Cramps vs contractions question.

I'm getting really intense cramps and lower back pain but everything I've read says contractions start at the top of your stomach and move down. I don't feel that at all. Are they just cramps?
Baby still hasn't dropped, I have lost the plug so I doubt this is anything but I'm curious what others have or are feeling.
Also the cramps are pretty much consistant but then get worse and when they subside they don't completely go away.

I also have had this same exact problem. low back pain, like intense accompanied with what seems like bad menstrual cramps. I have no "wave" thing like they all talk about. But I looked it up on google on a ton of websites and they say sometimes little contractions arent a wave, but like cramps. I am not totally sure just sharing what I have heard and own experience. Doctor appointment tomorrow and I will be asking about this. My baby has dropped though and I am 1cm dialated for the past week. I am interested in seeing the other responses!

I've delivered 4 LO's and the contractions have started very mild and at the bottom like menstrual cramps and as time passed they intensified. Just trust your instincts because everyone is different. Time them and if you see they get stronger and consistant it could be the real deal

FTM here but I've been trusting my gut when it comes to what a contraction vs. cramp is. Mine have all started lower like a cramp and gotten progressively tighter, more uncomfortable, and wrapped to my lower back.
