hi everyone, i know it has been on our board before but it was a while ago so i thought i would mention it again since i have some questions on it...
where do you get it from (stores/online)?
how much/often do you drink it?
when did you start to drink it?
did it really work for you?
does the pill form have the same effect?
thanks in advance for the info
Re: red raspberry leaf tea
I drink 2 cups a day, and have been throughout my pregnancy as well as before.
Did it really help in regards to what? There's no wa to know if it helped me progress as quickly as I did, I went from 0 to 9.5 within 4 hours, but I believe kt helped with recovery, and most definitely helped with my postpartum periods. They were HORRIBLE. I upped my intake and they became normal periods.
I drink the Yogi brand...

I drank it pre-pregnancy and occassionally throughout my pregnancy as I felt like it... I may drink it more over the next few weeks but not anything too crazy.

where do you get it from (stores/online)? Wegmans
how much/often do you drink it? 3x a day/ 8oz glass
when did you start to drink it? 34 weeks
did it really work for you? Not that I know of.
does the pill form have the same effect? Don't know the answer to this.
So I started drinking at 34 weeks but I'm a FTM so I'm not sure if it's worked or not..
how much/often do you drink it? I've only been drinking a cup a day. I'd like to up my intake, but I've also been drinking immunity tea this week because I've been sick so... hopefully next week! Definitely after 36 weeks it's recommended to drink 4 8oz cups per day.
when did you start to drink it? A few weeks ago.
did it really work for you? Sure. It has nutritional benefits so I'm sure it's "helping" in that regard. As far as having any impact on the birth process it's hard to say. It can only help, but you won't really have a baseline to go from, you know?
does the pill form have the same effect? I don't know the answer to this, but I would *guess* it's not as effective. I only say that because typically things in pill form aren't as effective as in their natural state.

I was curious about it after a bunch of people were asking about it on the Natural Childbirth board. According to my midwife and doula, the tea is a diuretic which can cause intestinal cramping which is why it stimulates uterine cramping. There are no known studies (only OWTs and anecdotes) about it aiding in birth or making birth easier/less painful, but there is information on it causing dehydration and preterm labor according to the ladies I've spoken to about it. They both advised against it and said that if it gets down to being overdue and I want him out, it would be like taking Caster oil or spicy food, it's not a sure thing and it might cause dehydration which is really bad for you and baby in delivery.
I just wouldn't want to screw with that kind of thing. I worked way too hard for this baby.
Huh, this is really interesting. What I've read about it has more to do with the nutrients that are in it being good for your uterus/reproductive system and that's how it aids in toning your uterus for more efficient contractions when the time comes.
FWIW, the MW that I asked about it (I have 3 and only talked to 1 of them about RRL tea) said that usually if people are interested she recommends starting it at beginning of 3rd tri, but that because I have had a C/S she wanted me to wait until 36 weeks. Her reasoning was she didn't want me doing anything to cause my contractions to be unnaturally strong with a scar on my uterus. I made an educated decision to begin it a little earlier than that, but I haven't been doing the full recommended amount. I haven't experienced any noticeable effects from it though. No extra contractions. IMO (based on what I've read) you would have to drink a lot to experience any negative effects. And by a lot I'm talking more than the 32 oz/day that's recommended for sure.
You have to be comfortable with it though. I'm not trying to change your mind, just sharing my experience
