Funny things from your own baby book...

When we had C, my mom gave me the baby books that she had kept for me, so that I could compare things between C and me as C grew up.  She actually kept the baby book until I was 3.

I just read last night that when I was three, she asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I told her that I wanted to be a "dinosaur ballerina!"  I mean, if you are going to dream, dream big, right?  Just FYI--this was apparently not just a passing whim. Upon my request, I had a "dinosaur ballerina" cake for my birthday that year--imagine a plastic triceratops with a little hand-made tutu.  My mom was good at fulfilling creative requests!

Any funny stories from your baby books or childhood that you are not too embarassed to share?

  • My mom gave me my baby book for ages 1 and 3. Age 2 got lost in a suitcase by the airlines :(

Anyway, once at church, I covered my ears and loudly asked my mom to "make the boring man stop talking" Oops!

Ha!!  In another episode from my childhood, in Sunday School, when my teacher asked our class who was born on Christmas Day, I apparently raised my hand and answered "Boomer!"   She told me I was wrong, and my four year old self fought her on it--because technically, I was correct that my sweet golden retriever was born on Christmas Day.  She called my parents in, it was a scene...oh, well.

  • Mine is kind of silly. There's a part for mom to write the birth story and a part for dad to write it. My mom's is very thoughtful. My dad's reads something like:

I told mom she shouldn't have eaten those Doritos. Boy, did she complain.

... Yup, that's all of it. Good work, dad.

    Pass the sheet cake.

That is hilarious.  And probably exactly what a lot of guys' thought processes look like!

I spoke to my mom about her L&D experience with me recently, and apparently, she still remembers eating the stale Doritos and what a mistake it was. So I guess he wasn't wrong...

  • I'm the 5th of 6 kids, so my baby book is an empty book with a few cards and things stuck in between the pages.  :)

  • My baby book wasn't exciting--just a record of measurements and all that fun stuff. But a funny story that my mom NEVER stops repeating:

There was one night when I wouldn't stop crying. It was my dad's turn to come get me and they were both exhausted. My dad picked me up and set me down in the closet and went back to bed. Of course, I still cried.

My mom turns to my dad and says, "You know you can't leave her there."

My dad: "I know, but it just felt good."

    I'm still in therapy Wink

Probably something along the lines of, "I told her not to eat so much pizza..."
