Re: XP: Steri-Strips Only on Top

  • OT, but have you looked into having a version done before you go for a csection? I had it done at 39w2d and baby turned and is still head down! It's worth a try to avoid surgery and it's not as awful as it sounds!

  • Wow. Glad I didn't read that before I had mine done! Thankfully, I had a lot of things in my favor for success, STM, high amniotic fluid, posterior placenta, etc, but I totally understand your position. It's definitely not for all, and not done without much consideration and research. I just know a lot of moms who had never even heard of it. All the best with your section!

  • Whatever's best for baby! I'm posting from my phone, so smileys don't work, but I totally understood where you were coming from. Now, I'm sorry for hijacking your post!! Someone? Answer her question!!!!
  • I don't have any personal experience, but I'm a nurse and take care of pts who have had large abdominal surgeries pretty often.  One of our surgeons uses staples and the other one uses just steri strips.  IMO, they seem to heal up about the same, and with the steri strips, you don't have the little poke hole scars from the staples.  HTH, and good luck to you!

  • i'm not really sure the difference regarding steri vs stitches vs staples in ab incisions but I have seen quite a few joint (shoulders and knees) incisions as a physical therapist and have always been quite surprised by what they can hold up to (stretching, inital exercise, etc). I also think the incisions/scars post look better with the steri strips.

  • I didn't have a c-section, but my sister and step-sister both did and only had inside stitches with tape (like butterfly stitches) on the outside. The tape was removed after 24 hours and just skin glue was holding it closed. Neither had any wound complications at all and the scars are hardly visible.
