Disagreements with DH

How do you handle disagreements about discipline, etc.? It drives me nuts when DH does things the total opposite way than I would. I spend far more time with DD so sometimes I just think its inconsistent when he steps in. I appreciate that he wants to help. But sometimes it just makes things worse.

I usually choose my battles. If its something huge, like safety related, I'll usually sit down and talk with him about it later. Never in the moment. If its something small, I'll just let it go.

We support each other while the discipline is going on even if we don't agree at the moment. Later we talk about things and come to a compromise. We are pretty much on the same page with how we handle things, usually what comes up is one of us thinks the discipline is too harsh or not harsh enough for the situation.

This. Discipline and safety we will talk about after DD goes to bed. Most other issues aren't big enough.

I know what you mean. DH is such a big softie, he hardly disciplines our kids at all. I spend all day with them, but I have to tell myself that just because I'm with them all day and he's not that I get to tell him how to discipline. Can you tell him how you do things during the day and just mention that it seems to work and nicely suggest he try it? Don't be too controlling or demeaning or he'll probably step back and not get involved at all after a while. Men are like that- a lot more sensitive than people think.
