DS 's stranger anxiety seems to be getting worse lately. He clings to me and won't look at the stranger talking to him. I feel terrible and I'm totally afraid to leave him with a babysitter or sitters at the gym. He will scream his head off! Any advice?
DH and I are both on the shy side so I know that is part of it

Re: Stranger anxiety
I'm sorry, that's gotta be no fun
We're going through a bit of the same thing here, but so far it only seems to be with certain people. I feel bad that DD freaks out when our super sweet elderly neighbhour comes near her, but I know it's just a phase (or so I hope anyways!)
I think I would give the sitter a try. If it's at home, I might even have her over for a few hours just so he can get to know her a little. And then when she actually does come over to babysit, have her come early so he can warm up to her before you leave.
The gym daycare would be a little more tricky, but I guess the only way to know how it'll go is to try, right? Who knows? It might not be as bad when he doesn't have you around to cling to?
Oh no! Do you have a regular sitter that you use? Can you get the sitter to come hang out at the house with DS while you do chores in another part of the house? Maybe he just needs to get more familiar with your sitter? When we've gone a long stretch without leaving DD with a sitter, she is super clingy and cries horribly when we leave. I find it's better to try to leave her more regularly (when possible), even if it's just for an hour trip to the grocery store.
