Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Gymboree?

we have almost nothing around here in the 'baby' class category. i couldn't find anything that wasn't already full, or overly pricey. when we CAN afford it, since we can't at the moment, is gymboree good?

we visited one, and i really want Lux to be acquainted to other babies. i saw how my niece turned out after 3 1/2 years of almost no regular contact with other kids her age. and i don't want lux to turn out that way, besides she seems so happy when she sees other babies, and small children.

every time we go to the park and stuff like that, there aren't many others there, or they are much older. since moving here, i haven't made any mommy friends, and all of my other friends have moved out of state. or don't live close enough for regular get togethers.

all i have here is my in laws, and i would like to meet more people. i noticed there is a free class coupon. do you think it would be worth the shot?

I went to one class and really liked it. DD did also and was very curious about the other babies.  If I wasn't working and could afford it, I would go regularly.  I didn't find it to be cheap.

  • My cousin does Gymboree with her daughter who is 20 months and I went with them for a free bring a friend to class day. I and DD loved it but unfortunately it is way too expensive for us. Barnes and noble has a story time that's free and a ton of kids from newborns to 4 year olds go and DD has a blast. She never takes her eyes of the storyteller the whole time. See if your local bookstore and/ or library has those.

  • It sounds like somebody already suggested library times which is one thing that we do (we actually found a baby time at our local library so that is great) I also joined a local mothers club and through them joined a play group for babies born in 2012, you could look to see if there is anything like that in your area.

  • Around here our public school district has early childhood clases. Not sure where you are from but this might be worth looking into. They aren't super expensive. I spend about $150 per semester to have both girls in a class and childcare for the other one at the same time. They do fill up fast, but you just have to find out when registration for the next section is and be ready.
  • Your welcome! I'm glad you found one :

  • you can also check out your local communicty center. They tend to have reasonably priced classes. We are going to do a swim class in the Spring and it is only like $0 for 8 weeks. Not too bad. GL!

  • I did Gymboree with DD once she started walking at 17 months.  She loved it I even had her second birthday party there.  Personally I don't think it is worth the cost before they can walk because they can do the same activities with you and get interaction from story time.  DD needed the physical stimulation because she was timid about trying things like walking on steps etc...

  • We did it for a long time with our first LO.  It is a lot better to do it once they are walking though.  I agree it isn't worth it before they walk.  There is far more interaction once they are walking.  Also, as soon as they start, they will get sick because of the other kids.  So, you might want to wait a bit for that (until after the flu season).
