Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Rnp alternative

I use the fisher price rock n play for my LO to keep him safe while I get ready in the morning. I like that I can drag it from room to room. Now that he is about to crawl and pull up, he can almost climb out of it. What is a safe product to put him in so that he can be safe while I get ready? I would use the jumperoo but I can't move it from room to room easily. Btw my LO is 8 months old

Re: Rnp alternative

  • The floor on top of a blanket? Once DS was a confident sitter, we gave him toys or puffs on a blanket near wherever we were. If your LO isn't ready for that much independence, you can always put a boppy behind him, but it sounds like your near crawler is probably independent enough.

I also put DD on a blanket with some toys in whatever room I am in.  Sometimes I use the bouncy chair, but not often.

  • pack n play in the doorway? I used that one with DD1 for a while. Or highchair with toys on the tray. Ours rolls. GL
  • I'm always trying to figure out what to do with my LO when I get ready in the morning.  He tries to project himself out of the RNP, so I've been putting his on his activity mat.  I was moving the jumperoo from room to room, but it was just a pain.  I recently bought this seat just for this purpose and  I think will work out well as there is a tray with toys, but I still have to assemble it.

We were gifted that seat, I use it when I shower because it fits easily in the bathroom. We also have an infant-toddler rocker that we use

  • if you have space in your bathroom, I'd find a cheap used exersaucer- especially if you have 2 floors/stories- it's nice to have one on both levels!
  • I usually try to time my shower/getting ready with his morning nap. If that doesn't work out for you, you might try an exersaucer or jumper. The crib is also a nice safe place for them to play if the mattress is lowered all the way. I usually opt for the saucer or crib if I need to. I dont ever leave him on the floor on a playmat unattended because he is not even crawling yet but he rolls all over like a tornado and gets into everything. I would probably have him on the floor though if I didn't have any of the fancy play devices and I could remain in the room with him to keep a close eye on him.  I'm not sure if the pack and plays these days have wheels or not, but some of the older ones have wheels on the bottom. When I'm at my mom's house, she has an older model "playpen" that I roll right in front of the bathroom door during my shower so I can hear any cries. Then afterwards I roll him into the bedroom while I'm dressing and putting my make-up on.
