DS is 5 months and up until a few weeks ago had been EBF. Due to a high lipase level and various other reasons, I can only feed him once during the 10 hours that I'm at work, so we've been trying to give him formula. We've now tried 3 different brands, in powder and liquid form, and he won't take any. It's not that he is rejecting the bottle, because he'd drink breast milk or even water from the bottle. But as soon as we put formula in there, he won't swallow it.
He is eating some solids (so far just avocado, yam and banana), and he is obviously hungry because he always starts crying before I get home and will go on a "marathon" feeding session the moment I step into the door.
Any advice? My pediatrician said to just "keep trying", but it's been 10 days and he is visibly slimmer, so I'm worried.
Re: DS won't take formula
When I transitioned from EBF to formula I had to mix the bottles to ease into the taste. Formula tastes a lot different than bm so it can be a hard jump for babies.
We started with a 2:1 ratio and then everyday we moved it to higher concentration of formula. It took about a week but we did successfully transition. It was pretty during that time, though.
