We just came back from our daughter's one-year doctor's appointment, during which she got her fingerstick blood test for lead. My nerves are still shaking! It took 5 minutes of them pricking her thumb (no exaggeration), blood all over her clothes, her screaming from the pain. They said the problem was that she wasn't bleeding fast enough. I'm just wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience, or whether they messed up? I thought it would be fairly quick like a vaccine.

We always request numbing cream to be applied at the beginning of our appointment for any shots or pricks, and then we use Buzzy (buzzy4shots.com)... I have a needle phobia, so I think it's best to take preventative steps to ensure DS doesn't "acquire" it so to speak
Prior to getting Buzzy, I remember him as a baby getting the bili test for the 5th time and both of us just crying and crying... I'm sure the nurse thought we were crazy, but it was horrible!
ETA: Also, my grandma who was an ER nurse said they should really do pinky pricks because the pinky always bleeds --- though I can't really say I've tried it out lol
