My shower is coming up and I am trying to pin down a name for our beautiful little guy. Dad will not 'commit' to a name! He decided he should get to pick the first name since I decided our son's middle name would be Christopher. I loved the idea of him being more actively involved in picking the name...and he has thrown out ideas.....I find one I like (There are have been a couple REALLY good ones) but when I ask if that is what he wants to go with....he backs down. (My boyfriend's middle name is Jeffrey so I have thrown that one around.)
Jeffrey Christopher
Jacob Christopher (this was my favorite of all his picks)

Jeffrey and Jacob are both solid names, so congrats.
Is is common for people to announce a name at a baby shower? I've been to a fair number of baby showers and they are often pink/blue, but I don't think there's ever been a name disclosed.

I totally see your point. The reason the middle name was picked so quickly (and by me) is because I had a cousin named Christopher who died about 12 yrs ago. We were close growing up, he never had any children of his own...I always said if I had a son I would name him after my cousin.

My experiences with Baby Showers is pretty limited. I have relatives on both sides who keep saying "Do you have name yet?" SERIOUSLY. I can't imagine going into a shower 'gender neutral' I would have some very unhappy relatives!

Don't let relatives bugging you about a name force you into a name before you're ready, because as soon as you tell people, then you'll have to deal with everyone giving their two cents on what they think about the name. It's typically a no win situation when you've got relatives who think it's really important that they know (and like!) the name of your unborn child! We didn't finalize a name until probably 7 months (and still didn't announce it until DS was born) and everyone who wanted to know ahead of time just had to get over it.
But, FWIW, I think Jacob Christopher and Jeffrey Christopher are both nice names. I lean a little more towards Jacob even though it's popular. And, I like the meaning behind the middle name.
