Applesauce diet

So within the last week or so, DD has become the ultimate non-eater.  I know it's just a stage, but the kid has eaten applesauce, cheerios or nothing for dinner almost 5 nights in a row.  We keep offering what we make for dinner, sometimes she will take a bite or two until she decides she's done with that and throws it to the dog.  Then she just sits in her chair and whines until we play the "what will you actually eat tonight" game.  Some nights I just take her out of her chair and dinner is over.  Others, I'll appease her and give cheerios or applesauce.  She still eats a good breakfast, so I'm just trying to pack as much nutrition into that meal as I can.  She's not starving, so I'll just let it run its course. Anyone else have a great eater that just decided they were going on strike!?

Re: Applesauce diet

  • MY LO's appetite has been weird lately. She refuses both purees and fingerfoods a like at different meals. i think it is normal for their appetites to diminish at this age, but I think part of our problem is that she has had an ear infection and is teething, both make eating painful.

  • Hmmm, I wonder about the ear infection thing.  She's had a cold for a few weeks and the DCP said she's been tugging at her ear, but she has been sleeping ok and doesn't seem to be bothered.  I will have to keep my eye on that.

  • With my DD, she normally eats a big breakfast and lunch but not so much at dinner. It's just her. I make sure she get well balanced meals for breakfast and lunch and then offer whatever we're eating for dinner. If she doesn't eat more than a few bits at dinner I don't worry, but I also don't offer an alternative. Just her sippy cup of milk.

  • My girls never eat as much for dinner as they do for breakfast and lunch. I refuse to play the what will you eat game. I make sure there's at least one thing (usually fruit) that I know they will eat without fail. I think kids go through eating stages depending on growth. Sometimes my 1 year old will eat twice as much as my 3 year old, and sometimes the reverse is true. I just try not to stress too much about it if they don't eat much for dinner.

  • Just be careful because too much applesauce can cause constipation.
