Blended Families

report card systems w 1 log in per student

Hi all,

i have the baby on my lap so i cant write out all the details of my situation right now, but we are dealing w some issues around a report card system at dc's that may only allow one log in per student.  Trying to get the office to get us two log ins but they seem very confused by this, as though we are are first blended family ever in their district.  annoying!

I remember other posts where others have dealt with this.  How did it work out for you all?  were you able to get a second log in?  If not, do you have to share the same log in or do you just forward a pdf of the report card to the other parent, who lives outside the school district?  If you share the same log in, are there issues with the other parent seeing grades of children that are not theirs?  That is the crux of our issue and why we want 2 log ins.  If not, I want to just forward the report card to exh, but the exh is demanding that I share the log in.

thanks in advance for your input and experience!

Re: report card systems w 1 log in per student

  • I save and email the pdf...but our school has each student's grades separate so if he wanted the log-in he would not be able to see our other kid's info anyway.

  • I have never been in this situation but have seen this question often. If the system only shows grades then I would be very consistent about logging in the day it is available and forwarding it that day so it is no issue. But honestly I don't see the huge deal if SD was still in school and saw my other kid's grades, is she entitled to no buy not sure why people seem like it is the end of the world. And that is not a critism of this post but rather of ones from a long time ago.

  • My advice - go above the office staff and contact the principal.  Or stop in personally and talk to office staff if possible.  Unless the system is archaic, additional logins are easily created.   It honestly should be your exH's problem to deal with since you must be the primary contact?   You are fine just copying the report card until he can obtain an additional login.  Because the login is specific to your family, you should not need to share it due to personal information on other children that are not your exHs.
  • Work your way up the ladder until you get an answer you want. Put things in email so it is in writing. Contact the teacher first, then office staff, then principal, then superintendent, etc. GL!

  • I sent an email to the principal and the administrator of the system. I also sent him the report card. Something I have to work on though is my automatic tendency to try to solve problems for him, which is the role I fell into yet agin when he started b!tching at me about this problem. I think I have done enough and he can worry about the second log in now. I will continue to send him the cards.

    Thanks for your input!
  • For the kids schools system you can only have one login. The BMs share it with us. There is a lot more to see then just report cards. The thing we are looking for most often is assignments not turned in. All of them have had an issue turning in homework at one point or another.

BM2 has two younger children in the same school system now. She just asked then her oldest of the two started school to have those two group together and not added to the older childrens account. It worked out perfect. I have no interest in her 2nd grades progress and she still only has two logins for all 4 of her kids which isn't bad.
