Toddler (lotsa) Sleep Question

My kid is healthy. He eats like a champ. He plays and is happy and I'm trying not to trip. Opinions needed. (Pedi says it's fine. Just seems weird.)

Lately he's been sleeping a lot (and if y'all don't know me) I am paranoid about everything.

Last night 8:30 PM until 9 AM today.

Nap was 1:30 until almost 5 PM.

Asked to go to bed at 8 tonight.

I'm trying not to stress, but if you have kids over 2, did they ever do this?
He's had his blood count tested  so that's all good.

Growth spurt? Two year molars? Y'all diagnose my squirt.

Thanks.

ETA: I love y'all, but please don't say ask the Pedi.  I did. XOXO

Did they just do a CBC?

I think he's probably going through a growth spurt.

Is a CBC a blood cell count? (if so, yes).

I was thinking spurt too, but I am a FTM that freaks out about random shiiit, so you could totally be right.

    Thank you!

A growth spurt comes to mind on this one, but my kid just turned 2 yesterday, so I really don't know. If your doctor isn't concerned and he's fine otherwise I really wouldn't worry.

Thanks! You're probably right. I just always seem to have the worst case scenario in my head.

    I appreciate it.

  • DD used to sleep like that. 12 hours at night and then a 3 hour nap. Now she doesn't nap anymore and we are lucky if we get 10 hours at night. Enjoy it while it lasts!

  • That's about what my two year old sleeps. He has always loved to sleep, some kids just need more than others but he is definitely in a growth spurt right now. I wouldn't worry unless you notice anything else bizarre.
  • My kid has been sleeping 9:30 to 1030 and napping 2 to 5 give or take an hour or so. He also eats well and plays well and is generally a happy guy. I've never thought to worry about it.

High five to our awesome freak children.

I blame December. It's only daylight from 9 to 5 right now. He's been sleeping later as it got darker.

  • My kid is a few months younger than yours, but he does 12 hours at night and a three hour nap every day.

If he seems happy and healthy, I wouldn't worry!

  • My kid slept from 8pm til 10am and then took a 3 hour nap yesterday. Then slept like a champ again today. He's also been eating like a horse. He just turned 2... growth spurt I think?

I mark his height on the wall and he's barely grown in the last 2 months... I think this kid is about to need new pants.

  • My daughter is over 2 and she has always slept a lot. Her typical schedule for the past 3 months has been.

In bed by 8 - till 730 at the earliest, but ususually 8 am. Sometimes a little later

    Naps 1 - 430/5

Before that she took 2 naps a day untill 22 months old. one from 10 am - noon. and the next from 3 - 5. Bed at 8.

Some kids sleep a lot. I hope she always sleeps well. As long as he is happy and alert when awake, my guess is he is fine and this is normal.

  • The nighttime doesn't seem odd - 12.5 hours. DD will sleep 13+ hours on weekends when we let her sleep in. The long nap - maybe he's feeling a little run down or having a growth spurt. Was it just yesterday or is it everyday? I wouldn't worry about it.

Me three. I asked my doctor about it, and they said the only thing to be concerned of it sleep apnea (being the reason he's sleeping more). Since he doesn't have that and he's healthy & happy, we just enjoy it while it lasts.
