Is my second appointment too late?

I saw my OB for the first appointment when I was 5 weeks. She wanted to see me 4 weeks later, but that fell during Christmas week so my next appointment will be when I'm 10 weeks. Is that too late? Because I was only 5 weeks last time we didn't hear or see HB, so I'm anxiously waiting for this next appt.

Re: Is my second appointment too late?

  • I haven't even met my OB yet--they won't see me until I'm at LEAST 12 weeks. I get to see her at 13. My first was just w/ a nurse.

  • I saw a midwife at 6w because of spotting. But normally my practice doesn't even see new OB patients until 810 weeks. I elected to wait until the beginning of the new year for deductible purposes, so my first real appt will be at 11 weeks and my doc was just fine with that.

  • Many OBs don't even see patients for a 1st appointment until 8-12 weeks.

  • I had the same thing happen - my doctor wanted to see me four weeks after my first appointment, but that hit on January 1st and I wasn't able to get in until the following week. I will be 12 weeks the day of my 2nd appointment.

  • I haven't had my first appointment and I am 10 and 2 days. Your fine on your second appointment.
  • I saw a doctor at just about 6 weeks to confirm my pregnancy but I won't get another baby/pregnancy related appointment until into the new year, in January some time.

I only went to a walk-in for my requisitions, so I have bloodwork and an early obstetric ultrasound scheduled for this Saturday and then Dec 28 respectively, and then I have just a GTKY kind of visit with a new doctor's office (it will only be with a nurse, going over medical history, and it's not just for me but my whole family - new GP) tonight so I'll probably schedule my first appointment then.

I'll be 10 weeks on Dec 31, so very likely won't get another appointment until 11-12 weeks. I'm not terribly concerned about my level of care until then though because there's nothing you really do at the doctor that's very intensive in the beginning.

Things to avoid during pregnancy: Eye contact with cats. Cats will suck the burgeoning life right out of you, using their infamous feline mind-powers. Avert your eyes, and move along.

FACT: 1 in 10 people are said to be a carrier of Listeria. Therefore you should avoid all shopping malls, grocery stores and busy street corners for the duration of your pregnancy. Or microwave anyone you contact until steaming, just to be safe.
