FU: Swallowing Problems

So we did our swallow study that I was a nervous wreck about. I was amazed as to how well LO handled being super hungry!

Everything is ok structurally - so it looks like it's a gag reflex issue. 

Now onto therapy... 

It sounds horrible, but all I can think of is how much money this is going to end up costing us :(

    If you google Early Intervention and your state, you'll find your state's EI website. They offer free, in home PT, OT, and speech therapy for kids until age 3.

    That's awesome! I had no idea.

    I feel so bad for being so clueless on all this medical stuff, we rarely went to the doctor as kids, and everything was right on track with my pregnancy, birth, and him growing so far (I joke that I could have had him in a field).

    Thanks for the tip on that :)

    Unfortunately, the word doesn't always get out about the EI program. DD1 had to have PT to help her walk, due to having pronated ankles. Our pedi referred us to a nearby Children's Hospital PT program instead of referring us to EI. Thankfully our insurance covered it, but we had to pay a copay for each visit.

    My friend is an Early Interventionist and said some pedi's just aren't very knowledgeable about EI services. Even though my friend works in EI, I didn't know what services they offered or how it works. I wish I had talked to her about it instead of going the route we did! Now I know better!

    My LO has feeding issues as well as some minor motor delays. He has 2 therapists that come to our house every week and it's free. They also go to grandma's if he's there. The only thing I pay for is his followups at the feeding clinic.
