juice?

I was going to do a CP-- but my computer won't let me. . .

So-  yes or no -  Do you give your little one juice?  If so how often and do you dilute it?

Nope.  We don't generally offer juice.  He's only had a splash of juice in mostly water a few times.

  • No, we don't really do water, either. She drinks enough breast milk to keep her more than hydrated.

  • I don't - but for no reason other than I haven't bought any yet. I am thinking of getting apple soon and just throwing a splash in her water. She loves water so I wanted to mix it up a bit.

  • We do probably about 3 maybe 4 oz ounce a day and we use it to get him used to the straw sippy cup, which he is used to already, but I don't want to give him formula in it so we do juice. I use the gerber baby juice and pour 3 oz and then an ounce of water.

  • We don't offer juice. He gets a little bit of breastmilk in a straw cup sometimes when he's eating dinner but he mostly just plays with it.

  • We have in the past, both apple and pear, to help with constipation issues. Both give her diaper rash though so for now we just stick to water.

  • Yes, but it's a sippy cup that lasts all day. The cup I use is 5oz, I think. So essentially it would be 4oz of water and 1oz of juice. I don't do it every day, he will drink straight water. If his poo is to thick one day I'll be sure to give him a little juice the next day. That and making sure he gets something green to eat has kept him from ever being constipated...or that's what I equate it to anyway.

  • I give water at meals.. I've given him apple juice prune juice when he was constipated.
He gets juice every now and then, but it's a very rare occasion.
    He's tasted lemonade loved it!

My pedi said no juice because it's bad or teeth.
But as I said... He's had it!

  • We do water in a sippy, or breastmilk if I have some pumped (a rarity, b/c she doesn't take bottles at all).  She's had it once, when she was very sick and dehydrated, but for every day, I don't really see the point.

  • My older DD was very slow with solids. She loved smoothies for a while and then veggie/fruit juice, and I kind of gave in because at least it was something other than breastmilk after a year of constant nursing and no bottles, haha!. She got kind of overly used to it and still drinks more than I'd like, now that she's 2.5. But her cups are left around sometimes, though, and DD2 like cannot resist. She is a moth to a flame and seeks them out... Off the tops of tables, out of my bag, etc! They're at least 70 percent diluted with water, but she's had a few good drinks of the sweet nectar. Whatever...
  • Nope. And we don't plan to. DD has never been constipated (kid could win an Olympic medal for pooping) so there has never been a "need". Since there is little nutritional value to juice but a lot of sugar - we are going to hold off as long as possible.

My family is a Foreign Service family. Families like mine are posted in every corner of the globe. We live our lives away from family, friends and the conviences and comforts of home. We often live and work in dangerous places among those that misunderstand our intentions and purposes. Sometimes members of our ranks sacrifice our lives to further diplomacy.  Please remember that we serve too. And I'm always open to questions.

  • We give juice daily, only about 2oz of juice in 4 to 5 oz of water.

If we don't give Aria a little juice every day, she gets constipated. I have tried just giving her more fruit, but it doesn't seem to help the way juice does.

She get 3-4 6oz bottles of formula a day. Other than that, she drinks from her sippy. Once the cup with juice is empty, I just give her water. She doesn't seem to mind what she drinks out of the sippy though... she drinks water just as well as juice.

  • We don't do juice. She eats plenty of fruit so I don't see the point. She is well hydrated from just breastmilk. She has sips of water, I'm sure never more than an ounce, mostly just for fun because she likes to practice drinking from a real cup and from her straw cup. Sometimes I will give her sips of water after her solids because I feel like that's what I would want. But other than what I mentioned she only drinks BM. I don't see the need for anything more right now, especially juice which in my mind is just unnecessary sugar, not to mention an added expense (I am so frugal it hurts, lol).

This!  Except we have given it 1 time probably 6 months ago for constipation, but won't for any other reason for as long as we can.

  • We did once because she was constipated.  She didn't like it, so wouldn't drink very much.  We just upped her fruit intake as high as we could get it and eventually she got over it.  We give her water or formula in a sippy or a regular cup.
