I was just wondering how soon/far into the process when you started to get your nursery/child's room ready? I know I'm really, really early in the process but I'm really excited for this step!
And bonus points for PIPs!

We did a gender neutral nursery right after we signed on with our agency. I knew that it wouldn't make me sad to see the nursery everyday but would give me something to keep me busy during the wait though.

Always ours in our hearts, but.now also ours forever
We set up a gender-neutral and age neutral (infant to 4yo) room when we started the process to become licensed foster parents. We were definitely on the early end of the spectrum, but I wanted everything ready for our home studies (not necessary). And like PP said, it made me happy to see the nursery all ready. When the waiting got hard, I would often sit in the rocker and enjoy the quiet since I was certain that room wouldn't be quiet for long.
If you are interested in seeing more pictures, here's the post I wrote about the room.
I plan on starting mine after the first of the year, now that we are home study ready. I want it to be gender neutral anyway (in case we use it a second time) and after I bring home the baby I can add little touches to make it more personal then. I figure it's something to do while we are waiting, and better to be ready in case we get a quick placement. Also, I think it might be better to do a nursery for "a baby", rather than doing one for "the baby" and then having the match fail. Just my thoughts.

This gets asked pretty often, and answers are all over the map. Go with what you're comfortable with.
About the time we went active, we started putting stuff into the "nursery". We aren't big decorate-the-nursery people, so we used a sitting room off our MBR. We didn't paint or put up window treatments, but we set up the changing table, crib, and a few other odds and ends to get the room functional. We also started getting a few clothes and diapers here and there.
We are putting in our application to the agency on January 2, and we plan to work on the nursery throughout the home study process. I want some tangible evidence that we WILL have a baby in our house someday, and I feel like the nursery is a good way to channel my energies.
Obviously we wont be setting up a nursery. I have had a ton of fun looking for big boy room ideas though! I am obsessed with pottery barn, I'm sure I will pick out bedding and such from there.

We've been waiting for a match for 8 months but we still haven't decorated the nursery. I don't feel like we'd be jinxing it or anything, we just haven't gotten it done yet. We've been working on a lot of projects around the house though.
We're doing a very gender neutral room. We started right before our home study process was approved and it gives me something to work on. The room is totally not being used for anything else, so there's no point to sit and let it be while waiting. It's been a lot of fun to put together!
We were given a crib and changing table during our last pregnancy so we have those in the room (the crib is not set up) and we have some other gifts we've collected, mostly boyish. I'm not sure when we'll set up the room, possibly over the summer.
We started working on ours, painting and such. We'll probably buy a crib and dresser in January/February.
We are planning on having everything sent to China by March so we wanted to be ready in case we get matched right away.
After 2 years of IF workups/treatments and 2 IUIs, we have closed the door on fertility treatments. We are very excited to be pursuing international adoption from China!

Thank you for all of the input - lots of different ideas on when a good time is. Now I know I'm a bit more normal for wanting to do it now.
And I definitely like what the PPS about decorating for 'a baby' rather than 'the baby' in case the Emom chooses to parent. Thanks for all the advice!

We plan to start working on it soon, and I almost wish we had started earlier. I've always planned on building a nursery for "a baby" rather than "the baby" but we are already pretty much matched after only 2 months waiting. Obviously we're incredibly grateful to have been contacted, but now I kind of worry how I will feel about the nursery if this match falls through. I'm really excited to start putting everything together and I love looking at decorating ideas, but I'm nervous also (more so than I think I would be if we weren't matched). I don't want to feel like we're building a nursery for this specific baby in case this isn't our baby.

Thanks! It is definitely my favorite part of the room, even though not everyone "sees" it right away!
