My dog just stepped on my stomach

Hey all,

My clumsy, 90-pound boxer planted his foot smack in the middle of my lower abs. Luckily it was his hind leg (his front paws are way heavier due to how boxer's bodies are porportioned), but it still scared the crap out of me. It hurt for about a minute and I haven't had any cramping or spotting since. I had my second u/s today and heard the heartbeat so I'm really hoping I'm just over-reacting and that he didn't really squish the baby like I think he did! Anything similar happen to you guys? Any insight?

Last pregnancy I had two very hard impact falls. One on my front at 9 weeks and one on my side at 16 weeks. Baby is very very cushioned in there. I know its frightening, but as long as you aren't cramping/spotting or otherwise hurting then you should be ok.

It would take a very very hard impact to crush your uterus enough (think a high speed car crash) to compromise baby, I think.

I know its hard not to worry, but just put your feet up, drink your water and do your best to relax.

Your uterus is protected by your pelvic bone at this point. You have nothing to worry about.

Your baby is very well protected right now. Very cozy inside. In fact at seven weeks the ute is still far back in the abdomen. You should be totally fine. If it were me I wouldn't worry much. Just keep an eye out for spotting or anything like that.

Oh ouch! I am so sorry! I have two pitbulls -- one grown and one large and rambunctious 11 month old puppy. I'm constantly guarding my abdomen because the puppy has no concept of my body versus the couch or bed and that it might hurt to just trample all over me. I have the same fears that this will happen to me and that something bad will happen. If you're not cramping and you saw a good heartbeat after that happened, I'm fairly confident you'll be ok. I would just be mindful for the future to try to keep that form happening again. I've begun working harder on training the puppy to be more aware of others and also curb the puppy mouthing and nipping a bit more earnestly. Good luck!

Thanks so much ladies! I knew in my mind it was probably ok, but in my exhausted and grumpy state its hard to be positive so I needed reassurance from others. I told the dog I hate him and yelled at my DH for being positive about the situation. I think I owe them both an apology. ;-)

I have clumsy jumpy boxer too...she is crying right now cause I have her and my mastiff quarantined in my kitchen because they are very lovey right now. My boxer is constantly cuddling my tummy.

Unfortunately, my u/s was this morning and this happened after work :-( I go back next week for another though, which is reassuring at least. I'm usually so good at keeping them away from my belly, too, so I think Im a little mad at myself for not being more careful today. Ugh. It's not easy growing a human!! Good luck with the pup! :-)

This has nothing to do with your situation, but I just want to say: I have a boxer cross, and she is...

*the best dog I've ever owned!!!*.

I love her so much. She's silly and goofy, and super affectionate, and intelligent, and she makes the funniest little sounds (like she's talking to you). She's such a sweetheart. She loves people and other dogs. She's playful and energetic. If all boxers are like her (she doesn't take after the other half at all in personality), then you are *soooo* lucky!! She's just the perfect dog.

If I ever get another dog..boxer all the way.

This.  I was in a car accident last week and worrying only made it worse.  I had some cramping that was most likely from stress.  After having an u/s and seeing baby my cramping miraculously went away.
Please try not to worry too much.
FWIW, my kids have jumped (full weight) on my stomach and everything has been ok. While I try to keep that from happening, sometimes they're just too quick.

Thank you guys for sharing your experiences! They have definitely helped ease my worries. I'm still not spotting or cramping either!

And yes, I just love our boxer and feel terrible I got so made at him! It just scared/startled me so much! We had a make up snuggle session.

My dog stepped on me constantly last pregnancy and DS is fine. This go around DS has kicked me square in the stomach a thousand times. Baby is well protected, especially at this stage.

I know cats weight a lot less (mine is about 12 pounds) but I also freak out when my cat steps on me. He sleeps with me every night and he usually walks over me a couple times before he can decide where he wants to sleep. I never minded before but of course now I cringe if he steps anywhere near my lower abdomen.
