Should I exchange my Ricaro Proride?

I posted below that we purchased a Britax Pavilion and  a Ricaro ProRide.  DD is in the 95% of height.  She is more long torso than long leg.

I can't return the Britax as we tossed the box but I can return the Ricaro.  I don't know that we want a Radian, though that is what I initally purchased (and then returned! - thank goodness for amazon!).

I'm just stumped. Why is buying a convertible car seat so difficult?  I researched tons online and honestly allthe reviews said their carseat was the best.  All car seats had pros and cons.  Certainly given what we're spending on these I want them to last as long as possible.

Truely this is my last post :) and my last attempt to further my research before I land on a car seat and never look back!

Should I stick with the ProRide or can someone suggest a better alternative?

TIA!

  • How much does she weight?

DD1 was off the charts for height as a toddler and 75th for weight. She was still able to rear face to 2.5 years in the classic Britax Marathon.

DD2 is 90th for height and weight and still rear facing in a First Years True Fit and SK Radian. The True Fit has a rfing weight limit of 35 lbs, so we'll hit that before she turns 3, but it's a great choice for tall thin kids.

I'm planning to buy the Graco My Size 70 (same seat as the Graco Size4Me) when BRU has their trade in event. I know they are having harness issues with their seats, but from what I've heard, Graco is working on a solution (and offering pretty good customer service). This seat rear faces to 40 lbs and has an adjustable head rest that can rear face in any position. According to that, DD1 would have been able to rear face until 4 years, and DD2 should get close to 4 years rfing also.

I have no experience with the ProRide itself, but we've been very happy with our Recaro high back boosters. I would think that the ProRide should get you rfing to 2 years and probably ffing to 4 years. I think it kind of depends on what you want to do with the seat.

  • So what is your reason for returning it ... Your daughters height? DS I'd in the 93% and uses a proride very comfortably. I personally would use anything else. Actually we own 4 (just bought 2 more for DD when she is 6 months).

I don't think the ProRide is terrible for height, but it is terrible for leg room. Britax seats are known to not offer much leg room, but the Recaro seats offer even less. The True Fit is awesome for leg room though.

  • First year True Fit and Graco MyRide or Size4me70 are both cheaper and roomier alternatives.  Use the Britax in your primary vehicle (it's a great seat) and consider the cheaper options as your secondary seat.
