Three weeks ago at my 35 wk appt, my doc told me I began to dialate a little and my cervix started to efface....
However, she also mentioned to no longer have sex.
So, why is everyone saying it is ok to have sex to make the baby come?? I also keep reading this. Just want to see what you guys think.
Re: Sex while dilating/cervix open??
Um... wha?
Sex helps your cervix dilate and efface more since it's a natural prostaglandin. I have no idea why your doc is saying no sex. My docs have all said to have lots of sex. It will help the baby come quicker.
That makes sense. I'll ask tomorrow when I see her. It's not like we're dying of no sex, just curious.
Lol maybe this is it!

LOL!
OP, maybe she is concerned because you're only 35 weeks (instead of a more optimal 38-42)? Did she say no more sex until __ weeks, or no more sex at all until after baby is born?
Hey I have an idea that I don't think has been posted yet.
Maybe you were 35 weeks and not yet full term and she didn't want you to go into labor early? I would ask again now that you are full term.
Just spitballing here.
well ladies I did ask my doc, and she is concerned about bacteria getting into the cervix since its open and leading to possible infections.
She said if u want to have sex, wear a condom. Like I said, we're not hurting for sex, but just curious.
This is odd.... how long has she been in the practice? I just had my 38wk appt and my ob encouraged sex. Im 3cm and 80% effaced with contractions (nothing regular) and DH and I are jumpin on the boner train every chance we get... this baby needs to get out!
Like others have said, as long as your water hasn't broken I think your fine
GET SOME GIRL!!!!
No sex after water breaks = preventing infection
No sex now must be because she doesn't want you to dilate faster??? I would ask though, because if she's just being super cautious and would discuss the reasons with you, you might be able to have some wiggle room.
I had a "no sex" order on me from one midwife during my first pregnancy that my other midwives later poo-pooed, but it was for something else. I had already served time in that sentence, and was annoyed that it was for nothing.
