For those of you with LOs who are coloring and drawing....
What crayons/markers would you recommend? What has your LO been using?
I want to get DD some coloring stuff for Christmas and thought I would see what other LOs are enjoying first.

Re: Coloring/drawing
Oooooh good question! We use the triangle-shaped crayons (they're a little easier to grasp). We also use the basic Crayola fingerpaints. When I don't feel like dealing with a mess, I'll put the finger paints inside of a big ziplock bag and let her go to town. She loves to move the colors around with her fingers, but since it's all inside the bag, there's no mess!
Interested to see what others say...
DD still puts every single thing in her mouth. We use the fat Crayola crayons (the ones that come in an eight pack) and I give her scratch paper. Once she starts eating the crayons, coloring time is over.
Peelester, I love the finger paint idea. I wonder if my DD could bite through that ziplock bag, though. Hmm. She'd certainly try.

I saw the picture of CK doing this on FB and meant to ask you about it... so I am glad you brought it up! Thank you

Peelster- another question... where do you let her paint? Just in her high chair?

LBB just uses whatever is handy - crayons, markers, pens.
But we got him the Crayola Color Wonder markers/paper for his stocking so that when he does color it won't get all over our tables and carpets.
We have a magnet doodle from Target. It's Fisher Price brand, it's shaped like an elephant and the "pen" is not pen shaped, it's short and fat so G can hold it. He doesn't play with it too often though.
I have been doing the paint thing I saw on Pinterest for a few months and he LOVES this. We put finger paints in a gallon size ziploc bag (one or two colors), get most of the air out, and I tape the edges with clear packaging tape onto the sliding glass door. It's fun because the light kinda shines through where he "draws" and you can use the same bag for weeks if you leave it there. Definite winner in this house.
Other than that he likes regular crayons but I think I will have to check out the triangle ones!

Yes good question. Any linkys to awesome drawing supplies?
N loves to color but she sometimes tries to eat the crayons as well. I think I need to get her some fatter ones that are easier to hold.
Yes, in her high chair. I either tape down the ziplock bag or, if I'm in the mood to deal with mess, I put her in one of my old tshirts, tape plastic bags over the tray of the high chair, tape down a piece of paper, and let her go for it.
This is such a good idea!
Brilliant!
Yes. She will probably grow up to be a sad, sad accountant.
Seriously, I had never thought to try it but one of the ages and stages surveys from the pedi's office asked if she would mark on paper if I showed her how. That's when we first tried it.

We bought DS the my first crayola crayons. They are big and easy to hold. Here is the link

We only did it because he does a lot of art at daycare - he draws with markers, pens, crayons, and paint there and they are always sending us home his artwork or pictures of him doing art, so we just started doing the same with him at home.
This is from back in May:
LOL ^
I am thinking that J will start writing on the walls and floor, that's why I haven't tried either.

OCT 2011 Moms BlogYep. This is how we discovered E likes to color. She tries to eat the crayons a lot too so I also like the idea of drawing time being over if she tries to eat it. We're actually giving her a table, chairs and art supplies for Christmas.
