Day care drop off time?

So we started looking at day cares today and I have started to realize that I need to be to work BEFORE the day care opens since I am a high school teacher.  Our schools start at 7:20, but the majority of the day cares open at 7! DH has to be to work at 6 AM....ideas around this? Is anyone else in a similar position?

Re: Day care drop off time?

  • For this reason, we had to look at in-home providers. Most of the centers around here don't open until 6:30 or 7:00 and I drop Allison off around 6:15 every day. Any later and I'm hitting a crap-ton of traffic. So no advice other than maybe look at an in-home place?

I have thought about home providers as well or a Nanny.  How did you find your in-home provider?  They seem to be hiding in my area!

  • Depending on your area, you might be able to find someone who can come to your house and watch your LO early in the morning for an hour or so and then take LO to daycare for you.  Maybe someone who doesn't start their normal work until 8 or 9 and is looking to make a little bit of extra money.  You could even look at the teachers at the daycare for this.  You would just have to trust them to drive your LO.

Honestly, I just googled "in home daycare hometown, state" and I found a link to all the licensed providers in Illinois.  I just kept trying different google combos!

    I <3 google!

  • Some DC's may change their time depending on how many others are in the same predicament as you... have you asked them if they would be willing to come in earlier if you pay them a little extra or consider changing their hours?

Yeah I asked them today and they pretty much said that there aren't enough of people to do that.  They said those that do have a problem with the opening time make other arrangements.  Either a spouse drops off or a neighbor, etc.  I don't trust anyone else enough to drive L around....so I guess I may have to look into other options!

  • We found our in home DCP by asking the people we work with that have babies. The perk to that is, our lady takes only teachers' kids and doesn't charge for breaks and summer vaca. She's awesome. Start there, because your co-workers' DCP's will be more likely to have the same hours that you would need for your son.

That sounds like an awesome deal with breaks! I hope I can be so lucky =)
