Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Hen did your LO first say mamma or dada?

Just curious? When did your LO first start saying mamma or dada? My friend's son says mamma and he's almost 6 months old.

  • Natalie has been saying it for about 2 months now, but just started associating it with me very recently.

  • When she cries she makes a  mommmmmmmmmmm-mom sound... but never when she's not crying...

She doesn't associate it with me.

Sometimes when she eats she's go "mmmmmmm-mmmmmm"

  • DD didn't actually start calling me mama until about 10 months.  Before that  it was just sounds

  • Good to know. My friend said that her son started right about 6 months. My son is 5 months old and isn't even close. He makes tons of noises but certainly not mamma or dada.
  • DS doesn't do this yet and he is 8 months old. He has said maaa and daaaa but not with any kind of intent.

  • DD says "mama" all day long, but right now it's just noise since there's no association.

  • Nothing here yet and he's 7.5 months old.  He "talks" quite a bit, but nothing that I can discern.
  • We have been saying "mum mum mum" and "Dad dad dad" consistently every day multiple times a day since birth. Not really for any purpose though just funny noises. DS recently started mimicking them especially when he's playing on his own and wants your attention. The fur baby sleeps about 4 feet away at all times when DS is on the floor. He "talks" to her the whole time. Apparently DS thinks she is "mum mum mum".
  • DD just started saying 'dada' but it doesn't mean anything to her yet. Most babies don't produce any real words this young; it's closer to 10 months or a year before it starts to mean anything to them. I have been trying to get her to say 'mama' but, of course, she prefers 'dadada'!. She also does b, y, and some other consonant-like sounds. It started about a week ago, and now she does it all day long! She's a chatterbox.

DD started saying dada shortly after turning 6 mos.  She says it all the time, but has no clue what it means.  Still, I love hearing it and can't wait until she says mama.
